tbh, and not trying to sound insulting, but the people that run marathons I always feel they look very unhealthy. Skinny, and weak..altough they can run really long distances.

weak isn't the first word i'd use to describe someone who can run me to death.

On the other hand, the dude that run the sprints, or the pro athlete in the NFL, or the MMA fighter..look pretty damn strong to me

i think MMA fighters are good all-around athletes, so i'd agree. and soccer players have super awesome physiques imo. but does a lineman look healthy to you?

but we're getting off-track here. if the purpose is to play a game of american football, distance running ability isn't a priority. but linemen don't push around bisons in the wild.

... still, how do you cut up the animal without knives? maybe just wait for the lions to tear it apart first? this is why talking evolutionary biology is so damn difficult.

Walking up on lions would take some balls. Pretty impressive.

Humans were able to make sharp tools long before the metal ages. Some of the stone tools are amazingly sharp and can butcher an animal almost as well as a knife.

and it has to be noted, during a persistence hunt, you'd go after the slowest/youngest/wounded animal in the group.

i know, one of the most badass things i've ever seen.

right, i was thinking spears. basic stone knives have been in use for millions of years.

Somewhat off topic but what to you health guys think about drinking while trying to lose weight at the same time? I'm in my freshman year of college = a lot of drinking, which has resulted in me putting on a solid 10 lbs. I've started running 3-4 miles daily, pretty much completely cutting out junk food, and overall trying to eat healthy. I've cut down the drinking to only weekends and occasionally a weekday. The answer is probably easy, some thing like - lol idiot drink less eat less exercise more. Any extreme do's or do not's you guys have to offer would be appreciated.

Been doing this lately with vodka and trying to not use as much chaser. 1.75 of Karkov for 15 bucks is a hell of a deal but it tastes like death.

NFL linemen are absurdly athletic. Their combination of foot speed, size, and physical strength is probably unmatched in any other sport.

LCHF (paleo?) norms are 50-150g carbs/day for maintenance. i'd stay < 50g/day for weight loss tho. but whatever you're comfortable with.

if your only carbs are beer, drink the beer everyday.

i'm not denying they're good at their task. or that they're super strong or have quick feet. but those are still artificial traits without clear survival advantages in the wild was my point. bison don't line up and cross your line of scrimmage so you can tackle/block them (not that even the best lineman could).

we evolved in the savanna. and there's little harm in eating fresh kill raw. lots of cultures still do it as a delicacy. and ever heard of sushi?

and again, we run distance as good as the best animals. our distance running ability is not a theory. what it's good for is up for debate, however.

haha. Of course, but planning your life around it (how we evolved) is very dumb. Namely because we 'evolved' past that, because as we evolved through thousands of years humans have now found a more convenient way to live, eat and also argue. We live in nice homes with no temporal annoyances, we eat whatever we god damn want (even if it IS bad for us) and we fight, thankfully more-so these days comfortably over the internet with little to zero consequences.

While it's true that palaeolithic man was much larger and stronger it says nothing about his intellect.

I do agree with you about High Fat Low Carb being great for losing weight, but I'm more towards thinking that since your parents ate carbs as did mine and everyone elses, is it such a big deal if mr.&mrs.smith and random.x.y.z eats carbs? No.
