With Black Friday behind me, I'm suddenly stuck with my bankroll and I can't use it for poker.

So, what better way to use it than making some micro loans through Kiva and Buy In 2 Giving!

This Philippine woman needs to expand her butcher shop . The average annual income in the Philippines is $1,175. How many of us have lost poker hands worth more than that? For $600 she is now able to expand her shop and improve her and her families lives.

Who wants to join me in lending some of their post-Black Friday bankrolls to an amazing cause?

awesome luke, I absolutely agree with your reasoning... will make new loans at the new month...

btw make sure to spreak your loans amongst different people as otherwise you're exposed to one client not being able to pay back (in the 2% of the situations where people can't pay off their debt)

btw I'm not sure if the lenders are exposed to that risk or if it's spread amongst all lenders, can anyone shine a light on it? couldn't find it myself on KIVA

Not sure either. I'd assume it'd be spread out as that makes the most sense. I honestly haven't put much thought into it. Since we basically need to get 1-outered for it to matter, I just look at it as a very tiny risk of helping Smile

Good advice on spreading the love though.

When a lendee can't pay back, you won't get your loan amount back. For example, if you loaned $25 out of a $1,200 loan and the lendee was supposed to repay over 12 months ($100/month) you would get your $25 back in 12 increments. If they stop repaying after 6 months, you would have only recouped $12.50 out of your entire loan.

so risk wise it's better to loand 8x 25 to 8 people rather then 200 to one person to spread risk...

The 5 start risk factor MFIs put up the money themselves in case of a default to artificially keep the default% down and thus get more people funding them in return. Otherwise it's as Luke said above.

But there isn't even a list of coaches on the website (or I'm blind). There was a list of coaches for the first raffle right?

It doesn't show for the general public as it's just for DC.
