ok, point taken. my reasoning when playing the hand in the heat of the moment was something like:
i have 2,5 dirty odds which are the 2xT plus the BD straight draw. however, i have to discount the fact that sometimes i make my hand and still lose plus the possibility that the BTN raises. so that's why i gave myself 2 outs.
analysing now the hand more calmly i can see that was probably a too optimistic estimate as probably what i had was a 1out-ish draw, thus making the fold on the flop the better play.
He's not checking to fold.
I've experimented with this line in the past and abandoned it because no one with those stats ever folded the river to me.
