With my extensive PLO50 SH + HU experience (8k hands at -9bb/100, 5 hands +50bb/100 respectively) I'll try chime in here.
So his flop check isn't really balanced here can we assume that he doesn't hold Q9xx as this would be strong enough to conti bet here with?
I'm pretty sure you have the best hand currently unless he made a 2-pair with the 8 so this should be a bet to protect against TP+x 'cause he's not calling you lighter on the river if you check behind the turn right?
I guess what I'm saying is that if you were to check behind the turn any hand that he improves to isn't a second best hand that will call a river bet or lead out but will beat you, unlike in holdem when we have a strong 2-pair or whatever and there's far less danger of that.

How often have you been double barreling and how has he responded to that? Have you checked back on the turn with a straight or strong made hand before? Does he bet out a lot of river when you check back the turn after betting the flop?
Anyway, getting check-raised here seriously sucks big time. I would probably check back and then maybe bluff catch if he's been bluffy, but if he's not really that aggro I would generally just fold to a bet on the river unless I improve, since the 8 hits a lot of random jack hands and makes a lot of straights. Can't really say a lot more without knowing more about your opponent.

I like your flop sizing if villain is a habitual check/folder in spots like these. I think its very likely that villain has an overpair and betting the turn will most likely fold that out since he would be scared of a river barrel. So you could check back and value bet the river kinda smallish for like 700-950 and hope he pays you off. Or you could raptor bet the turn and hope he pays off a smallish (550-750) bet. And doing the same on the river if you get there by that method.
A good benefit of a raptor bet line is that, should you get to showdown, you could now bluff in the future with raptor bets and get more credit than you would originally. It would give you a way to price your bluffs better and still have FE.

I've been going back and forth on this. I think I agree with the check back line. The downside is giving a jack or whatever other pair a free card when it would have folded to a turn bet, but I also think it can extract an extra bet when that jack misses and might now call a river bet if he thinks we are FoS.
Also, since he is not that aggro, i'm assuming he won't really try to bluff us on the river? That just gives us an extra edge since we have position We should be able to play the river pretty profitably.
