Hey guys.
I've never used this forum before and there aren't any stickies with suggested ettiquette for staring a group, so I'm just going to jump right in and hope I don't screw up too badly.
So, I've pre-ordered Small Stakes No-Limit Hold 'Em, and it should be out in a couple of weeks. If there is interest, I'd like to get a team going for this to help facilitate the learning and retention of the contents.
I know they have their own forums setup, and I plan on participating over there too, but I think there is value in having a team here as well. For one, I expect the DC crowd to be a lot better at poker on average than the posters who will frequent those forums. In addition, I expect some of the recommendations in the book to be a little unconvential (due to the contents of PNL v1), and I think hearing the opinions of more experienced players on these topics will help put people at ease and improve their understanding of NLHE in general.
Is anyone interested?
Side note: I'm re-reading PNL v1 in preparation, and I defintely fell into the 2p2 trap of "ZOMG, vary your preflop raise size? That's exploitable!", and then proceeding to forget everything else about the book. The book is about 300 pages, and they don't even start talking about the idea of varying pre-flop raises until about page 140. I missed so much good info in that book because I went into it with the wrong mindset and pre-formed opinions.

Definately interested!
I'll pre-order the book as soon as my money arrives on my MB account.
I'm a winning NL25 player but due my regurlarly cashouts and not wanting to leave the comfort zone I haven't moved up yet. But as I just finished school I'll give poker a real chance and will read Small Stakes No-limit Hold 'Em.

Hi all,
We'll be having a contest on here for free copies. Details and contest this coming week....
And I cannot tell you how many times it says in PNL1 "Don't vary your raise sizes if your opponents will use that information against you." SSNL has no chance at that kind of confusion: it's written directly for current $1-$2 6-max and games near to it.

Thanks for contributing, Matt.
And yes, PNL1 does mention quite a few times that you shouldn't vary your raise size if opponents are smart enough to exploit it in some way. There's even a section titled "When SPR doesn't work", I believe. I guess it would have been a good idea to clarify that in my original post.
In support of the concept though, I just got back from a session of live 1/2, and against that crowd creating target SPRs is 100% applicable. I could raise from 3x to 7x the big blind and get about the same number of callers. Now if only I could get over my live poker jitters enough to do the math in my head at a reasonable pace.
Brag: Left with 200+ profit. Weak-tight poker has never been more profitable. The game seemed easier then NL25 online.

I enjoyed PNLV1 and I pre-ordered my copy of this book the first day it was available. If this is like a book club or discussion group, then you can count me in. If it's not a book club or discussion group, what is it?

I would love to be considered for this group? Can I expect to walk into Borders on June 16th and find it there, or is there a better way for me to find it?
I think something that a group of like-minded people could really benefit from is swapping videos of play sessions about 60-90 mins long. The Haj School series has convinced me that is a good way to get a detailed intense look at an entire session as it plays out, instead of a hand history review. I guess there is screen capturing software out there that is free (camstudio maybe?) so I would like to try something like that.

The group is open to anyone who want to participate. You don't need permission, so welcome aboard.
It's an e-book that has no current plans to show up in standard printed format in bookstores. There will be some copies printed and available at a heavily discounted rate for those who buy the e-book, but I believe they will not be available for a couple of months.
You can get it here: http://smallstakesnolimitholdem.com/. If you pre-order it's only 40, but after release it will be 100.
I like your video idea. I would certainly watch any videos produced and (attempt) to provide feedback. Does anyone happen to have a link handy for software we could use to do this?

There's a link with instructions on how to make videos in the "Member Videos" forum. The description said the tools are free.
Also, with mod permission, I posted in the LC thread in the beginner / small stakes NLHE forum to let people know about the study group.

Should I pre-order it too?
Check out my post above with the link. You get 60% off the price if you do, so pre-ordering is probably your best route, unless you maybe want to wait and see if you can win a copy through Matt's contest.
Also, welcome aboard everyone. I look forward to working to with all of you.
