AR:
Well, I AM turning some kind of corner!!!
Congrats! High-5! Way to go!
This is the key to poker, imo.
Great article. I wanted to add:
"Your profit is a function of how many hands you play" under good table/seat conditions!
My wife is a blessing. She is such a positive, forward looking person. She has been a large part of my success, reminding me that I'm good at poker and that I shouldn't scream at the screen no matter what. Yelling FUCK or WHATTHEFUCK or HOWTHEFUCK or YOUFUCK or whatever is bad. She reminds me, "After you start yelling, you almost always lose in that session." And she's right. I start to force things, reraise out of spite, etc.
Don't get me wrong, I'm normally a very chill person and love poker. But sometimes, the cards just fall the 'wrong' way, reminding me that poker is also a game of acute luck. Bad players would never sit if their runner-runner backdoor gutshot didn't come in once in a while.
To help me keep perspective, whenever I play well but get sucked out on, I visualize a deposit into my "Karma Bank." I literally attempt to feel positive emotion about my play and about my deposit. Karma Bank deposits pay off. They do. Then, the next time I suckout (and extract much more than my opponent did), I fist pump and say "Karma Bank ftw!"
Little tricks like this help me keep a positive attitude. This is a must, considering tilt is the bigger killer of confidence and bankrolls, especially since "Poker ... is a long-run enterprise."

I can relate with you, Boomer, on the passive opponent. Posted this one on my blog. I guess he didn't want to lose customers? Or make $ either, imo.

Nice article, AR - I really liked it. Before I saw it, I forced myself to go back and play another 100 hands, which went well. I don't expect to usually earn 12BB/100 - not like I'm going to go take a shot at $2/4 and expect to "only" win 3BB/100 or something silly. Heh.
I'm not particularly annoyed at losing a certain number of BB double tabling - I'm more pissed that I recognized that I couldn't yet handle doing more than one thing at once, and I kept on doing it anyway. I mean, I started playing not too long ago; no reason to be impatient, right?
Long winded way of saying to Speirs: Not just no, but HELL NO I won't be recording my idiocy any time soon. But thanks for the offer to sweat.

This hand gives me a migraine. I had to read it 3 times before I was sure I wasn't hallucinating. I literally have my hands to my temples as though it's the only thing keeping my head from exploding. Maybe they somehow switched hands before showing?

No, Lysi they didn't. My read on BB is he's very agro (albeit over a small sample) and favorite move is a x/r on turns, relying on fold equity.
SB is 48/0/0.3 over a smallish sample (75 hands) and has cold called JJ to my EP open, x/c on a Q high flop and call down UI, chases draws and didn't raise a rivered nut flush 3 way.

Boomer, for balance please make sure you're also puking when you outdraw someone or river well.
How about the above xpert hand? Not only did he open fold, he immediately left the table
Sure the fact I couldn't get EXTREME mass action rather than just action is puke-worthy

Lysistrata, I would strongly suggest at least 10k hands before considering moving up. You are not setting yourself up for success by expecting 3+BB/100.

No no. Just for clarity, I don't expect 3+BB/100. I'm just trying to gauge if it's probable to book crazy good results over 5K hands just by running good and without playing good. But the 10K marker seems like a smart idea. I'm at least going to wait for the end of the month, even if I make my 100BB goal to take a shot earlier than that.

IMO remember those baby-steps
Before moving up comes taking shots. If you feel comfortable in your self and your game then why not take the shot.
Set 50 or 100BB's to this shot, consider them as lost. When playing note your feelings, play, everything that influence your decisions. Afterwards reevaluate everything about the shot-session.
The outcome can be positive or negative in many ways. But not taking shots when you feel you are ready is a mistake IMO - and it can be expensive too.
BTW fnupple wrote a formel for bankroll requirement some weeks back (I didn't note the exact name down) put it's:
(z^2 + d^2)/z = Big Bets required to move up
z = winrate
d = standard deviation (sigma)
So what limit to play by following this formel is obv BR / BB's required.
Note it requires super skills to move down aswell, and will result in a lot of elevator play for a long time.
Personally I don't like to sit a number of hands requirement but much more a personal evaluation of the higher games and my own skills.
