Tech Question - Monitors/Video Cards
6 posts, 6 voices
I know we have some tech savvy members on this site so I just wanted to confirm I have this correct:
- I currently have (2) 20.1" Samsung 204B's (1600x1200)
- Soon to be coming is a 30" Samsung 305T (2560x1600)
For the time being I will turn the (2) 204B's vertical and place the 30" in the middle. I am under the assumption that I need a dual link dvi video card?
Will I need two video cards to run this three monitor setup? Do they both have to be dual link dvi?
Thanks in advance...

You'll need the dual link DVI for the 30" and dual DVI output for the Samsungs, so yeah, you'll need 2 video cards. It's worth it, though.

Hey,
You might want to check out what Jeff Atwood did a couple of years ago when he got 3 monitors http://www.codinghorror.com/blog/archives/000740.html. Your options are either 2 cards, a card with 3 outputs or a switch like Jeff uses. If you have the money you may as well get two dual link dvi cards just incase you want to get high resolutions in the future.
Also get Ultramon to extend your taskbar across the monitors....works great.

I have dual 30" 305T's set up and I think I won't have to get new monitors for say, 20 years ![]()
Sounds wo complicated
