I have gotten a lot of requests for a book without coaching. Is this something I should look into? If you have suggestions let me know.

I've not read the book; I'm just an enthusiastic lurker.

I wonder what people think about how much value the coaching has relative to the book. I'm absolutely positive that the coaching is awesome and a great way to reinforce the concepts-- but would multiple readings/forum explorations lead a dedicated student to the same place eventually, with a bit more effort? Also-- since you've done the coaching sessions quite a few times, and probably have a good fix on what are the biggest stumbling blocks for most students, I wonder if you could make a vid or add a few chapters which would effectively replace the coaching? Obviously it would be a bigger profit maker for you, in terms of time/effort, since you wouldn't have to constantly schedule sessions, etc. Do it once and it's done.

I PMed you once upon a time about the book and you very graciously replied that the material was probably too advanced for my games/level (I don't play online at the moment.) Obviously if I could buy the book without the coaching for significantly less, it might become more worth it for someone like me. There even could be a deal where optional pay-per sessions for coaching could be done later.

That said, no one wants to cheat themselves. If the coaching really is hard-wired into the value of the book, maybe everyone should just wait until they can afford/get value from the whole package. Curious what your students think.

I think that really dedicated readers and people who will really work hard on their game with the book will benefit greatly from it even without the coaching. So let's say the book would be 100$ cheaper without the coaching from Oliver... Would it be a good deal to just buy the book? I don't think so. The coaching with Oliver simply is worth a lot more than a possible deduction of the price imo. So all in all I think that the coaching adds immense value to an already great product.

Also it will save you a ton of time if you can just ask Oliver directly all your questions about concepts, etc. and how they relate to your game instead of going through a ton of posts (yeah I'm lazy when it comes to that lol). So that's my two cents Wink

I suspect few people would rather pay 300 for the book without the coaching, if that was the 'discount.'

lol absolutely not. I personally just see it as a tied in product. When I read the book I was just amazed at how little I know about poker. There are a ton of concepts in there that I simply never heard about (which may be because I'm a donk Wink) Combine that with talking to you about the book and about my game and it's just really great.

When it comes to the value of the book compared to choaching with you then it probably depends a lot on the learning type of the customer. I for one really like having something that I can work on everywhere. Be it me traveling with a train, having an hour at university where I have to wait for the next course, etc. So I can take notes, answer the questions, etc. and then I can ask you about everything that I want to know. I also can go back and just reread a chapter that I still struggle with whenever I want. Still I wouldn't want to miss out on the coaching sessions with you. Basically I think that the book is worth the 400 USD alone. Tie in the coaching and we have a great, cheap product.

So if my post came across as saying the book is worth nothing then I suck at writing and expressing my thoughts because that's absolutely not what I meant.

There will be a new release of the book tomorrow.
Later tonight I'm going to post a video of me playing some 1K and 600NL.

All I can say is that I'm slowly finding myself again after having been on pain killers for way too long.

Wupti... new release

New stuff

- Something called Value bet conjectures
- Small changes to bluff catching conjecture
- A video about manipulation of perceived ranges featuring Bart-Jan (40 min or so)

And... I fixed

- a bunch of typos...
- videos now downloads

Thanks for your patience.

Near future

- It looks like there is no hope of our own forum here on DC. I would really like to give you guys more feedback on hands you have played etc. But I also want you to make the posts here on DC. Would you be willing to post links?

In an ideal world, we would have a closed forum with a post for each question that can be discussed. That way it will be more organized and eaiser to have a discussion without having unrelated posts show up and the discussion dies off.

Then other posts for hand discussions, new ideas, etc.

I know you wanted to keep the discussions on DC, but I think it is time to move it off. It is just going to keep getting even more disorganized.

Hi everyone, i bought the book and just finished reading it not long ago. It has already helped my alot and my game has improved so much, even though I dont understand alot the questions in the book.

I really agree with Jonk on the idea of moving the forum off DC. I am attempting to learn from the forum to clariy concepts but It is a mess and shit is everywhere. I feel like I am all over the place and 45minutes later I have found the answer to only 1 question. We need a page for question 1 and another for 2 etc. Its hard enough reading and learning and hoping to get it right, then to have to spend alot of time I dont have looking and weeding through a mess of posts is frustrating.
