I honestly don't know the answer to this right now -- right now the iPod-friendly videos are produced in a lower resolution, so you would probably be best served by downloading the full resolution MP4 files and using a program to convert them to the iPad -- I just don't know much about its resolution and processing abilities for vids yet to be able to comment beyond that. We don't plan on building any iPad apps in the foreseeable future, though I do hope to buy one when the 3g version comes out. Grin

Yeah, you can download vids in MP4 format and convert them to be able to send them over to the iPad. I have one now so I'll test it with some vids but I'm pretty sure you'll need secondary software of some sort to do it.

Rob -

Test driving my new iPad now while on the road using a sprint 4G Overdrive access point (10x faster than 3G from ATT, not as portable but it's cheeper than a separate wireless account for my laptop and it's faster). My notes so far -

1) The screen should be able to play back videos created in MP4 format, but alas most of them will not sync due to the codec used

2) Using the advanced tools menu in iTunes I was able to convert the videos to iPad comparable format. Some converted without any problems, but others only played the sound with a blank white screen.

I am hoping you can figure out what third party converter would be best to use to convert from DC MP4 format to iPad ready MP4 format, I don't mind doing this manually but I would need some direction first. thanks for your help, I hope my comments were helpful.

K, once I figure it out I'll let you know. It's not because of the codec, fwiw (codec is h264 regardless), but is because of the resolution/specific encoding settings. So far I've only found paid apps for doing iPad conversion but once I find one that is free I'll let you know and will share it w/everyone, probably will do a tooltime vid on how to use it as well.

I dont mind purchasing a good conversion app if its well designed and implemented, can you make a recommendation?

Both actually, I am using a snow leopard laptop and Windows Vista/Windows 7 desktops here.

In the meantime I am testing a demo of Aiseesoft iPad Video Converter, converting the MP4 downloadable versions. so far good results!

I used for my iPhone the Xilisoft Converter, its for Mac & Windows. Easy to use with several profiles saveable.

Should be working good.
