so wheres the cheapest place to buy the program and equipment? The cost of personal trainers is pretty ridiculous so I think I'm going to try this route.
Not sure if you saw my post, but if you go w/ Insanity you can get it for relatively cheap and not have to buy anything else. I got mine off eBay for $83. If you want to go with P90X, I think jk got his off eBay as well.

I got mine from www.teambeachbody.com
I don't trust ebay or amazon. I bet like 90% of them are copies that people pump out for nothing and make a profit on.

Weights were never really my thing either, mostly because I had no idea what to do with them really, this book helped me out a good amount and has a year's worth of routines. Once you get into it they aren't really that boring. The book also has stuff about proper diet and how important that is. The one downside would be that it doesn't include a lot of cardio, so I should probably get out and do some more running esp since it's getting nice again outside.
Built For Show by Nate Green
Easy read, light, packed full of good info without being too technical.
good book! I highly recommend it.

A lot of people know about P90X, but not Insanity. Since you've done (or are doing) both, how would you describe Insanity in relation to P90X?
Insanity is 90% cardio. Your heart rate will be very high for 45min. It has a great variety of workouts that are designed around the idea of max interval training. This is basically 2-4min sets of a variety of exercises split up by 30sec breaks. It's very intense.
P90x can basically be viewed as 2 parts. 1 part is resistance training and the other 3 parts is divided between plyometrics, kenpo(cardio), and yoga. 3 days a week you do resistance of some kind while mixing up those workouts throughout the 90 days and the other 3 days you always do the other stuff.
I saw very significant results with p90x without changing my diet at all. After 8 weeks of 3 days a week Insanity, I've only seen a slight improvement in my body, but an enormous difference in my cardio.
Both are excellent workouts imo but like Tecmo has said, Insanity requires less stuff. But you can get some dumbbells, a pull up bar, and a yoga mat/block, for < $100.

Steve, you might like Yoga. No joke, it's not just for women and hippies, as evidenced by the fact that it's part of P90x. I love it. It builds flexibility and strength, and there are classes that can be good cardio, too.
and some of it is hard as ****. It's funny because it's supposed to be a more centering and meditative workout or something but it get's me more frustrated than most things. Especially when I fall over.
For those of you looking to get dumbbells, bowflex selecttechs are awesome. They are somewhat expensive though.
yeah I got these, they're pretty sweet and take up very little space.
FWIW I did my first day of P90x (again) today. Feels good. Just gotta keep it up. One day at a time.

I want to get them, but I can't justify spending $400-600 on dumbbells ATM, the resistance bands are fine for me for now and they go up to 50lbs and I can make more resistance by looping them and making them shorter.

Just keep pressing play
I did Week 3 Day 1 today. I feel so much better everyday, I have so much energy, I don't have trouble sleeping, I'm waking up earlier and am super tired at night. I just feel so relaxed and focused and my poker results are fantastic so far for the first five days of this month, I'm pretty sure it's not a coincidence.
I'm not really following the p90x nutrition guide, but I cut out all caffeine, soda, fast food, high fructose corn syrup, and processed foods out of my diet, I feel so amazing. Better than I have in years.
The yoga is fantastic, now I see what Tommy Angelo is getting at.

P90X/Insanity motivational prop bets anyone?
I need some motivation that's for sure.
How's everyone doing with this?
I did 2 days last week that wrecked me. Not bad having done zero exercise in a couple months.
I plan on doing at least 4 days this week and full weeks from there on out.

I'm doing it 3 days a week with the gf and just finished the 6th day. Doing it with a partner (giggity) is huge for motivation. I'd be down for some fun motivational props. Just find something that will motivate you without breaking you (don't bet money if you can't afford it). I'm thinking of offering free coaching if I don't hit my number each week. Other ideas?

never thought to ask here but after this thread...
im actually really skinny
i think i weigh around 115, im about 5'11 and im 18
im definitely not eating enough, thats for sure
im trying to get into normal human being shape
can anyone recommend any supplements for every day in addition to eating, and a protein thing that i can use pre/post workout?
my workouts consist of me in my house with 15 pound weights doing flys, arm things, and forearm things
then some push ups and pull ups.
i have been steadily growing stronger, but i am gaining very little mass.
thanks!

I did Week 4 Day 1 today. This week is a rest week, mostly yoga and stretching with a little cardio and core work.
I've already packed on muscle and lost bodyfat. I haven't really lost very much weight yet, I think because you are mostly building muscle the first month, and I think month 2 is supposed to be even more intense than the first month.
I love it, I am more flexible, stronger, and in better shape than I have ever been. My cardio is great, the highest I saw my heartrate go was 177 when I first started, now I have trouble cracking 160, and it drops back down to normal so quick, it used to take forever for my heartrate to return to normal.
