Every poker player can remember improvements in his thought process. We know how important the decision-making part of poker is, so we have the tendency to jump straight to it. When we started with poker, it was: “I have an Ace and a Jack, and those are pretty good so i’m... Read More
In their conventional meaning, two-way bets are an irrational fiction. Let me define that meaning for those who have not touched the topic: Two-way bet: a bet that in one instance will occasionally induce calls from hands worse than others that your opponent will fold. That is... Read More
Below are a couple of hands from my session today, the first one I flagged up because it involved playing a 3b pot out of position against a guy who was on the passive side of taggy. Apart from the fact I hit a serious one-time on the river, which is obviously awesome, I’m thinking what should I have done if this river was a brick, say the 4 or 6 instead of the 5 that happens to promote me to a set? The sec ... (continued)
I was watching a Baluga vid a few weeks back and I remember him using the expression “internalising ranges”. Well, after about 3 months and a little over 40K hands online something has just clicked for me and I am suddenly internalising ranges. Whereas before I was loosely aware of the opponents’ ranges, it was only ever in tricky spots that I brought those ranges to the forefront of my mind to aid me in making a decision. ... (continued)

The point of this blog post is to talk about 2NL villains / opponents how their play effects ours. Yesterday I wrote how when moving up I intend to adjust to 5NL players and their percieved range and how they play their range in certain spots. I have written about 2NL players extremely wide range in the past and how we often see them take unprofitable lines and how this makes 2N ... (continued)
I read on 2p2 a member state that at 2NL he didn’t have a great session cos “essentially we just swapping coolers”. That is exactly it. Tonight’s graph shows this perfectly. Every sharp dip was a bad beat or a cooler. Every rises sharply upwards was me getting it in and winning with the best hand. I have had a theory for a long time, I will share. If you play 2NL or 5NL correctly, by this I mean TAG, I me ... (continued)
