Showdown vs Non-Showdown Graph

2012-09-08 04:05 AM

I’ve just started playing poker. I’m trying to get my head around the game and learning how to analyse my stats. I’ve done some statistics work at university, so i can understand the math, but i’m looking for some help analysing my graphs. Perhaps the most annoying is the Non-Showdown winnings which are deeply in the red. You can see my hand stats and graphs here http://img822.imageshack.us/img822/2082/scre ... (continued)

Playing style

2012-03-23 01:22 PM

I’ve been watching some BlackRain79 vids over on another training site (shhhh…), he’s one of the most consistent and successful winners at the micros ever, and he’s produced a series called “crushing the micros 6max” where he works from 2nl through 5nl to 10nl and focusses on really sound fundamentals which he basically never deviates from ever. He hunts out fish relentlessly and doesn’t even bother playing against reggy type play ... (continued)

Internalising ranges

2012-03-17 02:24 PM

I was watching a Baluga vid a few weeks back and I remember him using the expression “internalising ranges”. Well, after about 3 months and a little over 40K hands online something has just clicked for me and I am suddenly internalising ranges. Whereas before I was loosely aware of the opponents’ ranges, it was only ever in tricky spots that I brought those ranges to the forefront of my mind to aid me in making a decision. ... (continued)

Day 1 - bait has been purchased and the hook baited

2012-03-09 01:11 AM

So, the time has come to start this journey. I have tinkered over the last 10 days at NL10, NL25 and NL50 6 max to get a feel for the games. I hate to admit it but I am a fish and learnt pretty quickly thay NL10 will be my starting point. There are pros to this though, it means I actually begin my journey fully rolled for it. At the higher stakes I would have had to start with more ... (continued)

Tilting like a mofo

2012-02-20 08:14 PM

As I sit here typing this blog that doubtless nobody else will read, I have blood oozing from my knuckles from where I meticulously lined my computer chair up, took a deep breath and jammed two or three of the hardest punches I could muster into the plastic backing whilst exhaling and screaming “F*CK” at the top of my lungs. Yes my friends, I have almost certainly tilted my balls off this evening, and if nothing else this bl ... (continued)

Week5 5NL, after taking a week of break

2011-08-10 07:34 AM

Hello my dearest readers… I cannot believe number of viewers of my Blog hit 1000… I am very very happy about it and much appreciate your time… I hope I can do better job keeping this page updated. I had a pretty bad run last time I posted. I tried some more sessions and things went wrong even more… pretty much wiped out all my earning of 2NL and I came close to the verge of scaling back to 2NL again. Then ... (continued)

Time to suck it up, take the hits and move up!

2011-06-05 05:57 PM

When I first started this blog in Feb 2011 I was messing about at 10NL. And now I’m back. But what I’ve found about moving up is that it is this kind of weird experience where you expect to keep crushing and things just stay the same as they were. What I think it actually is, is like a boxer stepping up in class. You know where a boxer or MMA guy is good and has put in decent results and had s ... (continued)

April = Moving up, running under ev and winning

2011-05-02 05:19 PM

Moved up to 5NL for the last couple of weeks. After trying a few times to move up, I have finally “stuck” at 5NL. This limit seems really soft, to a certain degree it seems a little easier than 2NL, which might sound weird. It took some adjusting to, to the different villain’s in that they are a little more aggressive on the flop and I seem to find that 50bb short stacks seem to be really aggres ... (continued)

OK Lets try to move up.... again.... :)

2011-04-25 09:06 PM

The past month before the end of this week, I had been thrashing about at 2NL. Running into some coolers, getting 2, 3 or 4 outered and instead of winning $25 over ~16k I had lost $25 or 14.5 BI’s. Trust me at 2NL, playing a fit and fold style, kinda weak tight and sticking to the Baluga Theorem that is brutally dull. Boring in fact. I was starting to really not enjoy playing poker. Which was not good. So when ... (continued)

The mechanics of the Micro Stakes

2011-03-16 10:49 PM

Been thinking about moving up recently and by doing that I have started to think about the mechanics and dynamics involved in 2NL and how these might differ at 5NL and beyond. What I have noticed over the past 6 weeks or so playing 2NL is I have really not been 3-betting at all. This is due to a number of different factors. Mainly being: 1. Working out the range of an opponent pre flop is really difficult ... (continued)
