I generally hate advertising as a rule. It wastes my time, it is usually pretty annoying, and it is almost always aimed at people with a more primitive sense of humor than me. Now thats not to say I don’t love a good football-in-the-crotch scene now and again, but most ads come up woefully... Read More
Looking through my HEM db I made a sobering realisation recently that if I just never called an all-in ever I would have made more money. And not just by a little bit, by an absolute mile. Now part of that is to be expected because I am a beginner, but part of that is just that I seem to go on a special kind of all-in tilt where all my plans go out of the window and my discipline somehow melts away. Amusi ... (continued)
For a brief spell, it seemed like nothing I could do at 10NL was wrong, but as a beginner one thing I should not have underestimated is the enormity of the gulf between when I am playing my best and when I am not. As a result, in a few short sessions I was able to drop 8BI and give back all the profits from my good spell. The thing is that this time I could see exactly what had happened – tilt + not walking away from the table. S ... (continued)
OK so my recent run of success couldn’t possibly last and today has been a bit of a bump. I made a couple of big mistakes, had a bit of bad luck and lost 4 buyins. Interestingly I noticed that when I have been making money I have been playing pretty tight. When I am inclined to make mistakes, before the mistakes I’m being laggy. I start of being successfully laggy, then have the big blowup. I need to be aware of this and tighten up when I find that my session stats are looking quite laggy.
The pc that I used to play poker on finally gave up the ghost, complete with my entire HEM database. This is probably a good thing as it was freezing up and disconnecting and generally inducing tilt. I’ve decided that since I’ve lost my notes, my hands etc that I’m going to start fresh, focus on 2NL (I had been moving up and down a bit) and try to just get better. I was doing ok at full ring, but I’ve decided to mainly focus on ... (continued)
This will be the first in a series of, to paraphrase Tommy Angelo…‘blogging drills’. Since starting the blog, with good intentions and serious aspirations, it’s really fallen by the wayside and I’d quite like to get back into it. Even if it’s only read by a handful of people, it’s be pretty cool to have a place to store thoughts and rants whether or not they’re actually poker related and there’s always a distant pos ... (continued)
