So I guess I should begin by telling whoever takes the time to actually read this a little about myself. I’m 33 years old, married, and the father of four amazing children. I have a good job that pays well, so poker has been more of a hobby and supplemental income for me. I don’t care too much for tournament poker, but love live cash games. I played pretty seriously in various home games/underground casin ... (continued)
This was at about 1:30AM last night, 7 handed $1/$3 game, everyone at the table looked visibly tired and people were playing very passive preflop. These three hands happened literally back-to-back-to-back. I started the first hand with just about 300bb. UTG fold, UTG+1 folds, MP calls, LP calls, BTN calls, I raised $15 /w A T in SB, BB folds, UTG fold, MP calls $15, LP fold, BTN fold, SB fold Flop: 4 4 2 (pot ... (continued)
I spewed the last two sessions and I couldn’t figure out why exactly. When you start to lose its a great excuse to sit back and do work away from the table to prevent further leaks. You have to create a positive cycle out of poker. Kind of like Lather. wash. rinse. repeat but with chips and money. In the past I would sit there and I couldn’t wait to get back to playing. I’d get back to playing and nothing would change. ... (continued)
I’m working on something that’s going to be beneficial to players of all skill levels but especially for beginners and intermediate players. What I’d like to know from all ya’ll beginners out there (both live and online) is what topics you find the most daunting? What troubles you the most? I could obviously think about what I think the biggest leaks/issues beginners have are but I’d like ... (continued)
Last Friday we played a $0.05/$0.10 dealer’s choice cash game at my place on the new(ish) poker table that I brought back from my place at University. It was a 5 handed game the entire night and we played everything from pineapple, crazy pineapple, 2-7 TD, 7 card stud, 5 card draw, PLO, NLHE. I bought in for 200bb and walked away with around 820bb. Last night we played a straight $0.05/$0.10 PLO cash game. I bought in for 400bb ... (continued)
First time ever playing live poker at the casino tonight. It is a long weekend here in Canada, so there should be quite a bit of soft action going around. I will be playing $1/$2 and buying in full once I am comfortable. By comfortable, I mean that I never have to handle chips when I play online, so I am kinda intimidated by calculating the pot size and money behind that my opponents have, if that makes any sense. I’m going ... (continued)
Over the weekend I had a couple of horrible days. My first bad days (meaning poor play, not just standard downswing) in a couple of months. I was just auto-piloting through and expecting the money to fall out of peoples’ stacks and into mine. Today I changed things. I made sure that each time I 3bet, I did so with a plan. I knew how hard I would push on low flop, what high cards flop I would be triple-barrelling and how I would ... (continued)
Players are still doing it. They will always do it with middle pairs. If they miss they check fold. If they raise they flopped a set. Thats it. There seems to be a lot of loose passive nits, if that makes any sense. They have a loose limping range but play fit or fold post flop. Bet sizing is weird in live. They telegraph the strength of their hands with raise sizing. They raise a large amount with big pairs they’r ... (continued)
The good news is that live poker hasn’t really changed much. The decisions of the other players is still spurred by everyday problems in life. Its more of a game to blow of steam and they still make erratic moves that don’t quite make sense. Its a form of tilt that comes around much more often in smaller spurts eventually leading to a complete melt down. The ones who take it “serious” are just passive nits. When they ha ... (continued)
Thats where I got my start playing underground live cash games around Denver. I also used to get into casinos using a fake ID. I had huge tilt problems but wasn’t 1/2 bad. every once in a while I would hop a flight to Vegas with some friends. I did pretty well until the last few trips when I’d spew a bunch. Anyways, I’ve been out of the loop for quite sometimes. Before I knew where all the games were. It was a depressing scene. T ... (continued)
