Hi!
English is not my natural language, can someone give me a good explanation about poker therm "polarized / de - polarised player"?
Polarisation is about a hand range, not a player. For example, a 3betting range can be polarized or depolarized. Or a river betting range can be polarized or depolarized. Polarized means very weak and very strong hands. Depolarized means also medium strength hands. Think about the Earth. North Pole on top, South Pole at the bottom. Lets say the North Pole is strong, and the more South you go the weaker it gets, with the South Pole being the weakest. Polarized is only the North and South Pole. Depolarized is also Europe and Canada.
To make it easier to understand, lets use an example with a simple form of poker poker where you get only 4 different hands preflop.
AA
AJo
T9s
A2o
Polarized 3b range = AA+A2o. This player calls AJ and T9s preflop.
Depolarized 3b range = AA+AJ. This player calls 89s preflop.
Other example of a river betting range. The board is AT952. A possible flush got there on the river, and villain bets. Lets say his range for getting to the river is A8, a flush, or QJ for a missed straight.
Polarized betting range = flush, QJ. This player checks A8.
Depolarized betting range = flush, A8 and QJ.
So a depolarized range is more difficult to read than a polarized? I didn't have that idea. Picking up the 3bet example. why a depolarized range wouldn't 3bet T9s or A2s ? It's europe and canada ^^.
It's not a question of difficulty to read. It's a description of the type of hands in the 3bet range. A depolarized 3betting range would not have T9s or A2s because those hands aren't very strong. ie, they are 3bet bluffs. Depolarized means the range has a fair amount of value hands in it. A polarized one is one that has the top most value hands and bluffs. It doesn't have mid strength or upper mid strength.
Im glad this was brought up.... I'm just now starting to understand this concept. I have been playing 25NL and 50NL for a few years now and have been a very average losing player to becoming breakeven thanks to these forums and vids. I have just recently started posting hands in the forums and posting about other hand and have found some clarity... somewhat... I'm still struggling like many others I'm sure. Now that I somewhat understand this concept when should I be polarizing my range preflop and when should I be depolarizing my range preflop? Especially in 3 bet pots. That is probably my biggest problem and leak is hand reading and knowing what to do and not to do in 3 bet pots in position and OOP. And when to give up or when to take certain lines in 3 bet pots and when not to take certain line in 3 bet pots... Thoughts, comments, and criticism is appreciated. ![]()
Watch "The Thin Red Line" episode 1. Fast forward until the 3betting part (you can tell it started from the sheet). Stop watching immediately after the 3betting part. The rest of the video will hurt your game more than it does good for now.

Thanks will do
say someone is 3-betting with AA-KK-QQ and sometimes with 78s A5s K4s and also AJo, KQo QJ,
i.e they are polarized and depolarized,(or is there another word for ths?) why do they have to be either polarized or depolarized, i seem to find they doing it with both catergory of hands and not one or the other
Thanks will do
I made notes some time ago ![]()

nice article!
balugawhale explained this very well he said if your both your gonna be 3 betting to much. and IMO if they are both and doing it alot you can and should 4 bet thrue the roof and trap with hands weither IP or OOP as they will be dominated alot and you can have the best of both worlds...
Thanks for the article,
I guess.. there's some stuff I'll be trying out then ![]()

Two short sentences:
1. As the posters before me said, a range is polarized, not a player.
2. Polarized range means nuts or air.
