29/20 is pretty damn LAG btw. I wouldn\'t 3 bet preflop, also I think you probably should have folded those threes preflop unless you were deep and definitely check behind the turn with them.

In this hand I think you need to bet the flop and call off your stack, sick as it is, but the stack sizes preflop got you in this mess.

I play a similar style the times I play NL, its fun! Also, heresy or not, Cole\'s videos are fantastic Smile

So villain is a pretty good LAGTAG. I\'ve seen him make a few plays, and he seems to know what he is doing. His pf numbers are 35/21, but I havent seen him get really out of line so far. The only big pot we\'ve played I raise pf, he 3-bet OOP, and I called with 33. The flop came 89T. he checked the flop and I checked behind. he checked the turn and I bet about 2/3 of the pot hoping to get to a SD or fold out a better pkt pair, and he c/r me for about 3x my bet. I obv folded.

My image at the table is fairly TAG. I\'m playing about 29/20. I\'ve been iso-raising limpers quite a bit, 3-bet squeezed a couple of times, but have generally had good hands the few times I\'ve shown down.

So on the flop I didn\'t know what to do. If I bet and he shoves I am in a tough spot with a double gutter and an over, but I could be drawing nearly dead if he has diamonds to go along with his hand. His stack size makes it tough becase if he has a hand he is almost certainly going to shove if I c-bet.

obv the turn is the worst card in the deck. and I figure it isnt even worth trying to catch a bluff since if I just call he\'ll probably bet big on the river both with good hands and bluffs.

I ended up checking the flop, and check folding the turn. But I wondered if that is correct, or if I should have put in some action at some point.

yeah this was the 1 hand where I felt totally lost. The 33 hand I felt like I played horribly, and as soon as I bet I realized it was a mistake.

FWIW I have been practicing playing super LAG trying to use the style i\'ve seen several of the players in the CardRunners videos use (cole south, taylor caby, townsend etc). So far I actually feel much more comfortable playing this way than I did in a typical TAG fashion.

I was always strugging with 100BB stacks and trying to figure out how to deal with the LAGs and TAGs playing back at me. But since I have switched it up (and become the player applying the pressure and isolating the weak players) the game makes much more sense.

I also realize now that many of the plays are a reflection of my table image and what that allows to successfully value bet or bluff.

anyway, enough rambling. I think it is definitely a style worth practicing, and I\'ve been working on it at 1/2 before trying it at higher stakes.

thanks for all the input. much appreciated!!!

Hi there,

I think DeathDonkey covered it pretty well. I just really want to emphasize that playing this hand preflop against a UTG raise is a pretty big leak, especially if you\'re 3-betting. His stats are pretty loose at 35/21, but if he is pretty good as you say his UTG range should still be very tight. IMO, fold>>>call>>>>>>>>>>raise.

Postflop, I\'m not really sure why you checked the flop. If you lead for say about 42 and he shoves, there\'s going to be about 80 behind since hes only got 75bb. Its a pretty trivial call at this point getting almost 3-1.

Also, I did just notice that villain is playing somewhat short...this is definitely some evidence against your read that he is a good player.
