CO: $49.00
BTN: $50.00
SB: $71.30
BB: $53.00
UTG: $53.70
Hero (MP): $120.15

Pre Flop: Hero is MP with Q Heart Q Diamond
UTG raises to $1, Hero raises to $3.75, 4 folds, UTG calls $2.75

Flop: ($8.25) 7 Club T Heart T Diamond (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $6, UTG calls $6

Turn: ($20.25) 2 Heart (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero checks

River: ($20.25) 3 Club (2 players)
UTG bets $23, Hero??

The villain here is 65/38/3.0 over 50 hands, obviously from his stats he looks like a maniac, but I haven't seen him do anything crazy. I checked the turn with the intention of calling his river bet, but then he overbet the pot on the river and that got me a bit confused. Is this a standard call here?

I think you should call. Sure, he could have a ten or something, but his line doesn't make much sense and it's an obvious bluff spot for him.

Interesting spot, but against the maniac, I don't think I fold. Sure, the maniac could raise a hand with a T and call a raise OOP, but it doesn't seem overly likely. Good bluff spot for him on the river when you check behind the turn, as most players tend to do he's thinking "he's got AK."

Tough decision, but I think I make the call.

Also, would you consider checking behind on this flop to induce bluffs on the turn/river?

I think its a call.

He would have bet the turn with a FD, except he maybe think you gonna fire again the turn because you bet the flop so he is hopping to check-call or check-raise.

He can hold a T, but you can see so much hand there you beat.. from A-high to smaller poket pair. He can also have a FullHouse

I prefer betting out because I feel there's a decent chance he might bluff raise me on this flop.

this is definitely a tough spot.

but maybe you can simplify it this way.

it's standard to call a river bet of almost pot. if he bet 18. it's a standard call. he bet about 5 dollars larger than a standard call. so ask yourself, does his stats justify and adjust me calling about 5 more dollars than a standard call? at 65/38/3 it looks like a yes.

but i think the more important stat might be his river bet percentage. does this guy value bet lightly? 50 hands is not enough for this number to be significant tho...

This is exactly what I was thinking. If he bet a standard amount I would've snap called and never think twice about it. The guy had 77. I find that many loose players like this one at 50NL are often making overbets when they want a call. I guess some have realized from their many failed bluffs that an overbet looks too suspicious and people call them more often Smile
