BTN: $3.34
SB: $5.02
Hero (BB): $5.60
UTG: $3.54
CO: $5.00
Pre Flop: ($0.07) Hero is BB with 9
9
2 folds, BTN raises to $0.17, SB calls $0.15, Hero calls $0.12
Flop: ($0.51) 5
7
8
(3 players)
SB checks, Hero checks, BTN bets $0.24, SB folds, Hero ?
This is only my 4th hand with BTN. SB is 19/17/0 over 89hands. I put SB on small/mid pp-some sc. this flop hits that range quie hard, he can easily go for a c/r here. BTN seems fishy based on stacksize, so his range is wide.
Now, that small blind folded, what should I do? Calling is out of question imo. Should I raise, and try to pick up the dead money? What should I do if he 3bets/shoves?
Thanks for all the answers in advance!

Calling is bad because we play with a shallow effective stack, and any overcard/spade is a bad card for us to call down on. That's what I thought.
The same applies if he has an 8 here. The best way to get max value is to get it in on the flop.

If he's willing to get it in on this board with an 8. I don't think you're going to be terribly happy with 99 if you get your money in on this flop.

Sorry for the late response JacknCoke56!
This was my 4th hand with the btn, so no stats.
Against most fishes on NL5, this 3bet would be for value, and the strange thing being that it wouldn't be that thin, as they open any 2 that is suited. I've even seen people defenfing with 26s, T4s, 96s...
The problem is that we are playing with ~60 bb effective stacks. So I want to have some more room to play postflop. Plus I don't know if this is the type of fish who will shove over my cbet w total air, or the guy who I can vbet confidently.

Good to know I need to pay more attention to what people are playing positionally I think. Thanks for getting back to me on that, I was just speaking in general terms to anyone who would have liked to answer. Thanks for getting back to me River!

Follow up because I didn't pay attention to the whole hand. 3 betting pre is good if you think villain is stealing, otherwise you are out of position and calling is best. Check raising most flops (not this one)is OK if, again, you have him stealing.
With this flop it is also good to lead out - as majority of hands would have to fold. If villain does not fold then no more money goes into the hand.
