[100NL] downswing...how far is acceptable?
after moving up through 25NL and 50NL, running around 18bb/100 over 40k hands, i finally had the BR for 100NL (> $3k). It started out great, going up 13 buyins, however then somebody pressed the doomswitch and now im 15 buyins down.
there is a clear point of inflexion where the switch is pressed:

Its getting rediculous up to the point that I'm reluctant to go allin with AA, because i just know that villain has QQ or KK, and you know how that is going to end...
my question is, what is the best thing to do now? I watch a lot of vids, i've read a lot of books...i know that i should be able to beat the game, however confidence is getting lowwww.
If your confidence has been knocked to the extent that you suggest, I suggest not playing poker for a few days and taking time out to review your hand histories and watch some videos.
By looking at my HEM after sessions, I found that a lot of my mistakes are due to subtle tilt and not taking enough time over decisions. Another important condition for me is avoiding playing when tired, in a bad mood or when distracted by another task.
When you do feel ready to dive back in you'll no doubt feel better about your skills and be better placed to distinguish between variance and not playing optimally, imo.
Most importantly, ENJOY YOURSELF. I'm of the opinion that, in all of its complexity, poker is a beautiful game.

This alone tells me you should take a few days off and then move down to 50NL untill your confidence is back up. You can't possible be on your A-game right now ![]()

this, GL!
I've been on a massive downswing that I'll just say is greater than the one your experiencing after beating 50nl for ~9ptbb over 30K hands. I took a full day off, no vids, no poker at all. The next two days I went back to fundamentals and watched a couple vids a day, still no poker itself though. Then about 4 days later I went back with a clear mind and smashed it.
Poker can be humbling, and sometimes you have to swallow your pride and be a bit robotic and logical about it. These things can and will happen, it's how you counter it that will separate you from the mediocre player. The money will come, but you have to be smart about it, and think more in the long term overall scheme of things mentality sometimes. Step back, and look at it from all angles.
