HI,
The handbrake method is pretty long, over 2 hours for convertion.
Sounds like you have a slower processing computer. A standard DC video takes about 20-25 mins for me.

I've converted videos to ipad using Hnadbrake. There aren't any preset settings for ipad, but I was able to import the settings I found here: http://www.ioncannon.net/meta/1040/how-to-create-ipad-formatted-videos-using-handbrake-or-ffmpeg/
The preset I've been using that works well for me is the Apple TV preset. You just need to be mindful of clicking off the preset then back on if you are doing multiple videos in the queue. Doing this maxes the screen size of the vid to the iPad. The DC vids I've done are crisp, and fill the entire iPad screen. For movies that are widescreen, you still get the black bars on the top and bottom, but the video is still crisp, especially from HD source files. Plus I'm pleased at how small in size the program keeps the final video in.
No USB port on Ipad really sucks... Being unable to multitask (you cant use Safari and open another application) sucks too... Expensive gadget imo but it definitely attract eyes on you if you got one

You get multitasking if you install iOS 4.

What do you mean? You can connect via usb on a PC.
It's sort of an in-between device, I agree, but it's a terrific eReader which is why I primarily bought it. I'm a field tech, and etech manuals are perfect for this device. Movies look awesome on it, and it looks shiny, and shiny = +EV
Yikes... DC on Ipad... that's almost enough for me to want to get one.
But no.... not enough. Sorry.
As asidrane mentioned in another post you can use DropBox to transfer MP4 onto your iPad and watch them there. Loading takes a while but then it's absolutely great.
I just got my iPad, and downloading the MP4 video seems to playback fine on it. I tried a 2-table and 4-table, and didn't notice any problems. Is there a reason why everyone is talking about converting the video that I am missing?

You just click "Download full MP4 video" and it'll play in Safari? I have tried several videos and all I get is the crossed out play icon.
Which videos worked for you?
I tried downloading the videos on my Computer and transferring them to the iPad via iTunes but then iTunes would tell me it couldn't transfer them to the iPad because the videos could not be played back by it.

I used "GoodReader" and you can download it via that and launch it in the video player. I believe the software costs $2, and is mainly used for PDF viewing.

You're right, it works with GoodReader. Cool, thanks.
Weird that iTunes won't just let you put the mp4 files on the iPad.
Wow. I got the iPad primarily as a reader, and GoodReader is my primary app I use and I didn't know this. A LOT easier to get files on the iPad this way, and the video files are smaller. Thanks for the tip Jonk.

Either did I, crazy good tip.
my iPad.

What do you guys use your iPad for that an iTouch or Macbook doesn't do? I was interested when they first came out, but then realized that I didn't have much need for it. Watching DC vids at any time would be pretty sweet, but what else could I look forward to?
