Do i need a different codec to view these vids which I've downloaded? everything else has played fine except this series and i've tried both the mp4 and wmv files.

Try the VLC Media player, that's what works for me with the DC videos, windows media player has some artifacts and stuff most of the time (for the newer videos at least (so not those with the cards falling down - intro))
