Hello All - I have been playing for about 4 years. Limit holdem 3-6 4-8 live. I have started a bankroll from $500 and gone up to $4,000. I have went back down to $1500 in just the last 3 months. I dont think Im doing anything wrong. If this is variance it is really taking a toll on me.
I just would like to get up to the bigger limits asap. I would like to know if anyone has been down the same road as me and has tried to build up a roll the same way. Some times I think I should be playing no limit holdem. I have tooken alot of break and studied quite a bit of poker. I dont feel like Im haveing alot of success. Any advice would be great. Thanks

That is a pretty bad swing in just 3 months playing 3-6 4-8. You must have a leak some where. Probably tighten it up pre flop. Do not fold for 1 big bet when the pot is huge. IDK. Buy in smaller and play tighter? Good luck. There is a lot of limit holdem content (videos) on here could help you out.

Sorry to hear. Everyone goes through bad patches. I used to also tell myself that im prob not doing anything wrong.....- you are always making mistakes. Even when we play well we are prob making mistakes. The answer is- work on your game.
If you arent in the mindset to to that right now, take a break or try plo or something.

Where are you playing? Make sure to check the rake structures at the casino. For example, I would venture that outside of comped drinks it's impossible to beat 2/4 LHE live. By that, it will be very hard to beat 3/6 and the winrates at 4/8 might be very small.
If you feel comfortable, I would rather take shots at higher limits (perhaps with pooling or backing) than try to build a bankroll at 3/6, but that is only an opinion.

I find it amazing that a game like poker where all this money moves back and forth can become unbeatable or barely beatable due to rake. Like i mean to an outsider they would never understand that a winrate equates to a couple bb every 100 hands, they see these big pots moving around and imagine you win huge. Its also amazing that AA equals like 80-90% of a winrate.
Anyway back on track lol, is OP not playing really underrolled? Im not familiar with bankroll management in live limit games. What bankroll management would you guys reccomend for live no limit games, im going to start playing them when i get a car (just passed my test).

There used to be a time, perhaps 8 years ago, when 300BB used to be *the* number quoted for live LHE. Winrates back then used to be 1BB/hr, though (remember the old "Rounders" quote). Nowadays it's not nearly as high, so BR requirements go up. But I think 500BB is plenty enough if not playing for a living. Taking calculated 100BB shots is also fine. So 500$ is not a bankroll (too little), but 4000$ is almost overkill for 3/6.
Live NL games, it really depends on your winrates. If you have no idea about dynamics and come from micro online games, I would suggest a well timed 10BI shot, you wanna shoot to have 20-50BI bankroll if not playing for a living.

Thanks for the reply, at what point do your rebuy in a live no limit game if you buy in for 100bb?

I feel like I am not qualified to answer that question as I don't play live NL. Probably ask in the NL section of the forums.

Depends entirely on your skill level/bankroll. If you are a skilled player at deeper stacks I imagine you should aim to be as deep as possible at all times.
