Relative Position Question

Let's say you have a marginal 4betting hand (whatever you think that is). you raise the CO, get cold called by the BT, and then 3bet by the SB. your choice is to call or 4bet.

if you call, you will be facing an auto-cbet on the flop, which gives you the option of raising the flop and forcing the cold caller to face 2 bets. otoh, if you hit the flop marginally, you are stuck in the middle with no great options.

if you 4bet, you have initiative and the action will likely check to you. however, on the flop all opponents will have the option of only calling 1 bet against you. so do you flat or 4bet? which relative position do you prefer?

P.S. I am assuming the cold caller is not completely loose passive; he makes mistakes preflop but is reasonable postflop and will raise a hand such as top pair.

This is not true, as many people are unlikely to cbet light into two players.

The situation you are asking about depends on more factors than you mentioned, including the SB's propensity to squeeze, whether or not the BTN is good enough to trap by flatting your raise if the SB is likely to squeeze, how often the SB cbets the flop, and your exact hand (A3 is generally going to be better to 4bet bluff with than KQs, which will generally be better to flat).
