If I felt villain was such that I would need to call a river raise, I would check behind, unless he was a maniac, then I\'d gladly let him check raise me. Against an unknown I think bet/fold is a good play, and if you had any reason to believe he was a decent player, you could check behind, knowing you will only get called by better hands.

That card just hits too much of his range OR makes it so he can\'t call you down.

Low limit 6 max game
This is my third hand at the table, no read on villain, pre flop, flop and turn are standard I think but I have a couple of questions about the river.
Pre flop
I’m dealt Ac Ad on the button. HJ open limps, Co limps I raise, blinds both fold, limpers call.
Flop
Qd Jc 2h
HJ bets, CO calls I raise, both players call.
Turn
Qd Jc 2h 7s

Checked to me, I bet only HJ calls.
River
Qd Jc 2h 7s Kd

HJ checks. Even though the king could be a bit of a worrying card, I think I still have to bet my over pair. When villain bet out on the flop I think his most likely hand is a queen, he might have a jack or maybe a straight draw.

Question 1
Do I bet the river?

Now if I do bet the river what do I do if villain raises. Villain is unknown, can I fold my over pair to a check raise. If villain raises the river I think he is probably going to be holding KQ, KJ or QT most of the time. I can’t think of many hands he would raise the river with that I am beating. The problem is though, that I will be getting around 11 to 1 to call so I don’t think I can fold my aces to a check raise here.

Question 2
Assuming you did bet the river do you call a raise from villain?

good post...

I will always bet this for value... 100%

if c/r\'d I agree there is not much we beat at all.. I think a check/fold vs. an unknown is probably correct (although admittedly I pay this off a fair amount at the table)

I think sometimes I am a bit too suspicious of unknowns and tend to assume they are retarded aggro\'s until proven otherwise...

easy bet/fold for me to a passive player here.

easy bet/call for me if i\'ve seen him get out of line

what range of player would we have to bet/call here that isn\'t a maniac?

at the limits I play i think i could tend to categorize the large majority of players into a clear bet/fold or bet/call category for this exact situation.

Just curious because checking behind being correct didn\'t even occur to me. I think I need to be cautious of this because as I move up in limits and face players who continually think on the 2nd and 3rd levels.

so what factors into a check/behind here? are we worried about thinking players that are able to use upper level thinknig to bluff? are we worried about tight passive players that have shown spastic streaks on the river?
