Beginner Limit Hold'em Poker Forums

Was totally readless on villain.
I like the whole concept of just defending your whole range in the BB when heads up, but I can't help feeling that I potentially miss a lot of value on boards like this and only get the value out of really strong preflop hands such as AK either on very dry boards or when I hit. Maybe I am making big mistakes in spots like this (by not ck/rsng this flop or by not value-betting this river?). I do v-bet A-hi fairly often but was really unsure if I was a favourite when called on this kind of unpaired board that might dissuade him from showing down worse A hi. I also thought that he could possibly have smaller pairs that didn't want to v-bet turn against a QJ board. Any lines suggested for these kinds of spots?

I would value bet the river. If we check, he'll play very well against our hand, value betting better hands and checking back worse hands. I also don't think he's going to bluff much if we check the river. If we knew he was more passive and would check back 22-77 on the river, then there might be an argument for checking.

I don't like C/R'ing the flop. He's just going to end up folding a lot of his worse hands that we want him to barrel with on the turn & river. We also put ourselves in a position to put in extra bets badly against his made hands and maybe even fold the best hand if he plays back at us.

Ya, it could be the best option, but we haven't developed enough of a read on villain that I'm comfortable Ch/Folding what could be the best hand. When I said villain will be "value betting better hands and checking back worse hands." I was speaking a bit generally. I wasn't saying he value bet exactly 22 or better and check back exactly AT or worse.

Also, I think just value betting the river is likely a +EV bet against his calling range.

FWIW, I haven't played a hand of online poker since Black Friday, but I think I was pretty decent then. That said, I like your line.
