Assume villain is a solid Lag/Tag to Lag regular that plays well post (for these stakes).

I'm having trouble with my defense range of Face Card-Rag vs a steal. First, I not sure how loose I should be defending these. How low do you go w Kxo? Qxo? Jxo?

Second, when I do defend these, I find I'm often having to Ch/F a ton of flops. I think generally speaking this is going to happen a lot because these hands just don't connect with flops very well, but I'm worried I'm folding even more than I should be.

Below is an example.

Poker Stars $2/$4 Limit Hold'em - 4 players - View hand 1754154
DeucesCracked Poker Videos Hand History Converter

Pre Flop: (1.5 SB) Hero is BB with 6 Diamond K Spade
1 fold, BTN raises, 1 fold, Hero calls

Flop: (4.5 SB) 4 Heart Q Diamond 8 Club (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets, Hero folds

Final Pot: 2.25 BB
BTN wins 2.183 BB
(Rake: $0.27)

Mostly I'm posting to follow this thread and see what the other [BBB, DD, OTR] players tell you...

But for me, I don't go much lower than offsuit 8's for the reasons you've pointed out. I'd imagine the answer might depend on the rest of your range for peeling flops and x/r semibluffing turns.

first hand I would peel the flop.

second hand I would peel the turn ... and decide on the river. But its close, folding is fine ...

I think you can fold more flops w these some-bd + overcard if villain is typical reg double-barrel happy. Maybe peeling the good BDSD (those wo gaps)

Q8 isn't face-rag!, and K6 isn't really either. Smile I think good players play K4o/any king, Q5o+ and J5o+ here. The fact the Lag is good is bad for us. I'm sure folding Q5o and J5o is good play here.

I'll admit I often simply fold flop in Q8 hand (this might be weak-tight if I'm defending Q5o), but if you call flop you have to call turn. He's betting every turn right? We have better than 30% equity vs his range, SD value and are getting better than 4 to 1.

In the K6 hand I think a check-raise might be better than a call. I would have thought a raise would take it down often enough (less than 30% given that we'll win elsewhere sometimes). If he's calling down with all ace highs I guess we don't take it down often enough. Is my thinking too 2008? Peeling is better? I can't bring myself to call here. Is folding bad?
