Hey Guys,
So basically I have been getting into poker recently and have played a about 10k hands of cash and about 50 tournaments or so. I have been hearing again and again how high varience tournaments and how much steadier cash flow cash games can be.......but I think that tournaments could be more profitable for me. Firstly, tournaments have more recreactional players and people looking to make a big score for fun, whereas cash games are generally filled with Solid Tags and pros looking to make money. Secondly, this could just apply to me but I find that I am so much more focused in a tournament because I have a clear goal in mind; making the final table. And lastly I tilt way harder when I play cash games, If I take a bad beat in a tourney, I dont mind, but If I take a bad beat in cash, my session is pretty much ruined.
Tell me what you think.

I've gone on a couple heaters in cash but I feel like I'm always manuevering in tricky marginal spots and I get too attatched to my money. But in tourneys i feel less pressure and I seem to be always getting it in way ahead.
Thanks for the support man

I would say do some serious training in both. I was a afraid of cash games for a long time in my early poker days, so I played $2 SNGs and MTTs, but I eventually switched to cash. Once I got good at cash, I thought "ha! I can earn money waaaay quicker playing cash. Like I'm EVER going back to tourneys!", so I trained exclusively in cash. But alas, there were times when I'd see a MTT with big overlay, or would get caught up in the excitement of a big tournament series and decide to enter only to find I was incredibly rusty, and would regret not putting SOME work into training in MTTs as well.
Don't worry, just work hard and keep your wits about you and you will be fine, you will certainly improve in time. My biggest regret was not joining a training site earlier; you are already ahead of the curve for a poker newcomer, so be proud of yourself for taking the plunge!

I agree with the idea of putting SOME work into both... but it looks as though your PRIMARY focus should be tourneys.
Get your ICM on... and other voodoo that cash only players like me have no idea about.

I played one or the other for years. I also exclusively played Hold 'em. Now I'm playing a mix of both cash and tourney and I've started mixing in other games like PLO and Omaha hi/lo - and lo and behold I'm more successful at all of it. Mix it up - every kind of poker informs the other. Just know how to differentiate. Cash is very different than tourney. GL

Tourneys have easier players but the vig is much steeper. On the other hand, if you win high limit tourneys you can potentially get sponsorships (at least in the past -- this isnt so true anymore).
So yeh tourneys imo are only worth at high stakes, other wise just stick to cash games.
