Why would you ever give free coaching to a friend if you ever happen to sit at the same table?
Because it's not that big of a deal..

I think you'd be surprised how differently I structure my ranges based on chat reads

Got a chat read today, reminded me of thread. Didn't save it, but went something along the lines of:

Reg: It's bad to stack off with a over-pair on the flop when you have a full stack, you're just never getting the money in vs. a worse hand, blah blah blah

Fishy Reg: Okay! Smile

*I proceed to take notes, no attempting to stack off 100% with sets on flops and more stacking off with draws otf and tighter calling flop 3bet ranges for me, and just the general glimpse into is mentality will help me structure his thought processes, ty. oh wait there's more*

Reg: of course when you're up against a manic like omnimirage that all changes, I keep forgetting that, I've had to adjust my ranges twice because I was up against him

*wait what? I'm a manic and you're adjusting against me? okay, thanks for the information, I just kinda assumed you'd never adjust, cheers*

I shit you not this actually happened

What do people think of just turning off the chat? I find myself getting distracted by it sometimes although I do agree that the chat can give valuable information.

Chat is valuable in tournaments. If someone is chatting and in the blinds, steal them. It works way to much to be real.

Train yourself to stop paying attention when they're not giving away useful information. You're giving up a edge by turning it up, but you're also leaking by paying attention when there's nothing to be gained.

Interesting, reasoning behind this?

I like to empathize with people if I cooler them and they are just like "Frown" and I'm like "Frown blbl" and if I have chat turned off I worry that their sad faces will go without reply. Or if some one tabler is like "HEY WHERE IN AUSTRALIA YOU FROM?" like it actually matters or we somehow have some comradery because we're in the same country but I reply and put a half-ass effort into talking to him because I assume he's sad/lonely.

Fair enough. I'm sure I've lost "customers" because I've failed to repond in the chatbox.

Hey man it's not about getting an edge it's about being an over-sensitive person.

Brag: sometime ago a fishy was chatting to me, got all excited 'cause she lived in the same country as I, ended up adding me on the playstation and played COD with her at a later date, than I slyly suggested we should go play HU together, $$$$$. No good deed goes undone imo

Australians are weird like that, "omg, you're from the same country as I, we should like, be best pals or something"

I used to get really tilted if somebody insulted me in the chatbox a couple of years back, I got that, I'll show him feeling.
Once actually, somebody said something about my mother and it got me so pissed that I actually made an effort to find out where he lived HAHAHAHAHA.
So I did as mr. meowjr, and turned off the chat, as i felt kinda ridiculous to say the least.
Luckily this is like 4 years ago, and I now just laugh when people say anything tbh, and now i find the chat really informational as well, but as pointed already, it's important not to pay so much attention to it, that you'll loose more valuable information at the actual tables
