This is a thought that i'm starting to develop on a thread here, and that i was starting to think through on 2+2. With the 2+2 outage giving me reason to come back over here, it's a good chance to think about the ways in which i hope this doesn't become 2+2, Jr.

You're not clever because you pretended to agree with some awful advice someone posted. You're not the first damn person to come up with the idea of "leveling" with sarcastic pretend-advice. You're not the 1000th person, probably not the 10 thousandth. It's old.

This is like the pot calling the kettle black. I'm sarcastic. More than likely, you will catch me falling into the same patterns i'm complaining about. I need to grow. And sometimes i find sarcasm very funny. Those who are excellent at it (Jim Rome, Mark Twain, Jonathan Swift) keep me in stitches. If you're the new Mark Twain, go have a ball. Be sarcastic for the benefit of all of us. You're probably not the next Mark Twain, and you're probably not as funny as you think you are. I need to remember this.

This would just be silly and harmless, except that it really does undermine the informational value of a community like this. I feel bad for newbs who come into a poker community and have to weigh the value of every single post wondering if someone is playing a joke on them.

Disclaimer: I'm becoming an old fart, and i'm just getting back into the swing at DC. Perhaps i'm overreacting based on something i don't like about 2+2 that isn't really characteristic of DC. It just got me thinking, and i wanted to open it for discussion. Sorry if it's been talked about already.

I don't know....one of my favorite things about posting on twoplustwo is getting horrible, asinine responses regardless of how well thought out, passionate, and eloquent my post may be. It reminds me a lot of the movie idiocracy. I guess I will overlook ablot for the sake of good lols.

Yeah, i don't want people to be so uptight that they're never having any fun. But here's the thing: We have a lot of different motivations for being on a forum like this, and they're not always perfectly aligned. By nature i rush to the defense of beginners because i feel like they need to be intentionally nurtured to bring up the next generation of stellar reg posters.

It's a question of degree, too. A few silly posts are ok, but it's unfortunate when there are a ton and it's not easy to tell the bad advice from the good. I like to have fun but i'm all for erring on the side of seriousness if it preserves the value of the info exchange here.

I have been a member of several message boards- they are really an incredible source of information on various topics, but one thing that seems to happen with all of them is that things get played out.

You have hundreds or thousands of people hashing and rehashing various topics until everything that can be said or mulled over literally has been said and mulled over, and over, and over, and picked apart in every direction thousands of times.

I know exactly what you mean with the whole sarcasm thing on DC but it just seems like no one can really post something that hasn't been posted, then people have nothing left but to joke around.

This really means one thing- poker is dead.

This would only be true if people reached a consensus, which they clearly don't.

The best thing about poker is that is has untold variables and a major one of those variables is human psychology.

The sarcasm at DC is largely good natured imo. For me, 2+2 is just brutal to spend time at for a number of reasons. It may just be that DC and other sites like it have people that are actually working on their games and trying to get better. Also, the simple fact that people pay $$$ to be a member of a site probably dramatically raises the quality of posts compared w/ 2+2. Oh yeah, also this:

2+2 sucks a fucking giant dick.

On a (slightly) more serious note, I haven't seen a problem with leveling on DC unless I've been horribly misled. There is a decent amount of people being funny (as well as Mitch posting), but I've always seen it as part of building the community. I have found the people of DC to be far more welcoming and tolerant than 2p2, even when someone comes in asking for help and then arguing with all the advice being offered.

Let's hug it out after we have a minute w/ Mitch. That's right, I'm a listener......Oh God, kill me now.

Now that you're a listener of Badugi All-Stars, I'll leave you to your own inevitable demise.
