I saw a video, WiltonTilt I think, and he said he recommends 30 buy ins. I'm almost at $200, and ready to move up to .05/0.10 (had 113bb/100 today), and getting a little bored of 0.02/0.04. I'm willing to tough it out till 300 of course, but if 20 buy ins is enough then woo hoo!

As a recreational player I am using 20BIs ti move up as quickly as possible so I can spend a minimum amount of time in the micros rake trap. Also moving up helps to learn as a player as the player pool is slightly better at each level.

I will move back down if I lose 2 BIs at the new level, work my way up to 20BI and try again.

Also if you can afford to redeposit this is another factor that says move up quicker.

And finally when looking back does anyone say "well I'm glad I took my time and did things slowly" or do they say "I wish I had moved up faster" ?

I'm going to assume everyone said "I'm glad I took my time and did things slowly while figuring out the ins and outs of each level".

Having said this, I feel I'm dominating 0.02/0.04 (not that it's hard rofl), and am shamed to say at first I was not.

The shitty thing about 20 BI is that variance can make me lose 2 all ins, ie pocket aces shove pre, with callers who river a flush, then I have to work my way up, which in retrospect is only $20. but still.

Depending on your financial standing- can you re-deposit if you go bust or is this the only money you can allocate for poker?

That is the point of being well rolled for a level, you simply need to be able to handle the inherent variance of the game. We all know it happens and 2 BI in is absolutely nothing.
The key is not get stuborn and stay at a level when/if you become underrolled, your risk of ruin obviously gets higher the less BIs you have.

Move up when you feel comfortable.

I can't rebuy. Basically I want to make a grand a month to stay here, or else I would have to fly back home to another country, and work there full time in order to support myself. I don't need to make much considering I have another source of income here, thus the dilemma.

30BI generally isn't enough. Play with the calculators on this site to work out a plan for you:

I'll warn ya, variance is nasty

Why dont you get a actual job and play poker on the side until you reach atleast 200nl with 75-100bi for that stake. I dont know what stakes you play but i know defo wouldnt even consider living off poker till at least 200nl.

+ 1000

There's a universe of difference between pro, semi-pro and recreational br requirements.
OP should currently be applying semi-pro / recreational br rules where 20 bi is fine, withdrawing shouldn't even be a consideration at the moment.

Mate, really bad idea. You can still play with a full-time job, right?

I think he means needs to make 1k a month so he wants to move up the limits fast with 20bi. The thing that makes me think that is he said he cant redeposit. I could be totlaly wrong though and he cant because his wage is bad and bills use up most of it.

+1 also

There is a good deuce plays with bart hanson where a high stakes player says games are so tough he wouldnt recommend people trying to play 100nl for a living anymore. It was maybe a year ago, if i find it I will post.
