Hi I’m Spencer or mrhobbeys on here and a couple of other places,
Fast & Dirty:
Using a $50 deposit, try to play and run well enough to turn that into a bankroll and get 50k hands in for the month of April. Starting at 4NL, I will be working my way up the maximum level I can achieve, all the while finding and fixing leaks, and most importantly making myself go “back to basics.”
Basically I have effectively been putting this off for about 2 weeks now, to avoid putting this off into perpetuity I am going to just start by altering the goals and end date.
Today – 300 hands and little jump start
Wed. – 1.2k hands
Thurs. – 2k hands
Fri. – 500 hands
Sat. – UN
Sun. – 500 hands
Few details and info about why:
Week 1 projected total 4500 hands Based on 3 tabling at ~200 hands/hr estimate. Part of this project I will be starting with 1 table and adding them slowly, working up to 3 at a minimum as I am confident I am not making major mistakes I will be increasing the number of tables. The hard part for me will actually be to keep playing an ABC style of play when playing so few tables because since around June of 2010 I have been playing 2NL 5NL and 10NL 6max and HU(via starting tables) with the express purpose of developing better hand reading and trying to push looseness and aggression to the limits. I only got about 20k hands in total mostly losing but I think I at the end just before things got shut down I was really starting to put it all together. The problem is now I see spots all the time where I want so badly to work at getting a guys stack before he is gone, or take a thin thin edge vs a player that I saw do something 1 time, that I start to make big mistakes especially involving my position and the number of players in the hand, this becomes a major problem when playing Full Ring which I am doing now. So a big part of this is getting in the volume playing correctly, in a way reset.
I will make daily updates after I play linking to any hands I post and give a general description of other things mostly poker related. I think it best to point out now that I tilt and sometimes I mega tilt for an entire day like a few weeks ago I woke up hating the world I don’t know why I played that day but I lost $510 (almost 2 buyins) and that is really bad because I can’t afford to lose that much in 1 sitting right now.
I also want to point out that because I do not have a bankroll at all for any of the games I am playing winning is extremely important to me right now, I think this makes this experiment that much more interesting because winning a few hundred dollars to put just toward poker will mean a lot to me, and I know this has a negative effect on my play.
More about me:
I am a sometimes pro and sometimes semipro poker player (but as of now less pro
), and as a friend put it to me recently I have, “tried just about every way to make money except get a job”, before I found poker I tried to start a couple of businesses, sold on eBay for a couple of years, and for the most part (although I hate to admit this) I really have tried not to get a “normal” job.
So now I found myself in an interesting situation since April 15, 2011 I was trying to play live poker, and where I had a winning record in all previous 2 years and for the start of 2011, I started losing (I know myself and I know this is because I am thinking about how important the money is to me, so I am trying to get over that by winning a bank roll online). It took only about 2-1/2 maybe 3 months for my money to run out and I had to make some changes. I now live behind my parent’s house in an RV I purchased, and I have a really great setup to try and accomplish something good. Basically I help my dad at his business and I get to stay here without rent covering only the cost of the resources I use. This gives me a lot of free time and keeps my costs of living to a bare minimum. I also have started a business that I would like to see succeed, and have another job that is part time when they need another worker and this is the main reason for the title. This should be interesting to see if I am able to make the changes needed to actually get some decent volume in.
I welcome any advice, or questions.
