Yay Nawhead answers exactly how I would so I don't have to bother anymore. I would add that variables can skew the observational data way way more in American vs Monk compared to American vs American.

Hey Guys what do you make of this from Daniel Negreanu's twitter feed?
Daniel Negreanu @RealKidpoker
"Monks in Mt. Athos no cancer no heart disease no Alzhiemers... No meat. In line with the China study connecting meat consumption to illness."
Total vegan propaganda as far as I'm concerned.
shit we must be wrong, DN said so.. ![]()
DN will probably tweet next week 'Lions in Africa no cancer no heart disease no Alzhiemers.. Lots of meat. In line with mother nature connecting eating animal fats to health'
DN says a wide spectrum of everything, partially why he is so entertaining and the number1 voice in poker.
Have you watched his 'reads' videos? If not here's a breakdown.
"Wow, you check raised me on the turn. You could have [insert hand chart here] Ace high, King high, Queen high.... One pair, Two Pair, A set, A straight, a Flush, A boat, a Straight flush, a royal flush....
I call.
(mucks)
Yeah....... I knew you had that."
Villain taps table, rakes in the pot, "Sick read bro."
He must have been joking, the guy has pulled some funny pranks. He is too smart to see the china study and go "zomg no meat = no disease!"
Which fats do you believe we should favor on a HFLC diet? Polysaturated, Monosaturated, Polyunsaturated, or Monounsaturated?
Which carbs do you believe we should favor on a HFLC diet?
saturated fats. coconut oil (saturated). and i guess olives and avocados also.
carbs are stupid.

Why no monounsaturated fats?
good rule of thumb, eat real things. just eat more fat.
actually, don't listen to my previous post. i don't know why i prefer one fat from another. i'm just basing it off paleo pseudoscience.
this meta-analysis of clinical studies shows increasing polyunsaturated fats is good. their conclusion is to replace polyunsaturated fat with saturated fat. but i disagree since they never tested for that. all they're comparing is low fat subjects to high fat subjects. they're not even testing saturated fats. they only assume increasing saturated fat will do bad, bad things.
just eat more fat.
Monounsaturated fats (most are also true with saturated fats):
- core structural fats of human body
- chemically stable
- essentially non-toxic - in the breakdown no "toxic" byproducts
- body has large reservoirs for storage of excess monounsaturated fats (structural elements of cells, skeletal muscle, etc.)
- do not increase levels of small, dense LDL and ox-LDL
- improve triglyceride levels
- muscle gain as a large portion of muscle tissue is comprised of "fat"
Isn't it good to incorporate some polyunsaturated fats, keeping in mind to balance the Omega-3 and Omega-6. We should consume much less polyunsaturated fats than saturated and monounsaturated fats.
i edit a lot. read my last reply.
Fats Don't Make Us Fat, Carbs Do.
I fully agree with saturated fat = great! I do think we can gain nutritional value from a variety of fats. Luckily, monounsaturated fats are found in nuts, whole milk, red meats, olives, and avacados!!! ![]()
This HFLC (High Fat Low Carb) diet also advocates some carbs, which ones do you believe are most nutritional/beneficial?
that question would be better asked by someone who actually believes carbs have better nutritional value than meats (or fills in gaps for an all-meat diet, or has other properties). i will admit, however, that i like the taste of guacamole dip and grilled veggies. and i do take a multivitamin since i don't eat things like animal livers (vitamin C). ![]()
That link is hilarious Nawhead- All this carb talk got me back on low carb a few days ago, Its day four now, I feel awesome.
I have eaten basically meat cheese and fish cooked in butter it has been a long time since I did Atkins diet so I forgot how great you can feel when you start it up. I almost feel buzzed in a weird way like maybe I drank a few beers- maybe my heart is clogged and my brain is lacking blood flow?
I really believe in a balanced meal.
To much of anything is never good. I know so many athletes that eat bread (and other carbs) and are looking healthy and lean. I also know lots of people that try all kinds of diets and still look like shit.
I personally believe you know your own body best. For me, I dont eat to many carbs because i feel bloated when I do. My fat intake is pretty much as it should be, and my protein too.
It also depends if I am working out or not.
The most amazing part about all this was when I learned most people undereat and because of that they are fat.

What is a balanced meal? I think a good balanced diet is roughly 65% calories from fat, 20% calories from carbs, and 15% calories from protein.
Working out does change the % of each group - increasing % calorie protein intake will make sense for an athlete.
The effect of eating carbs should NOT be solely based physical appearance - as consistent working out will prevent the excess glucose from metabolizing into stored body fat.
I used to eat something close to 60% calories of my diet from carbs, but still maintained a "6-pack". I am one of those people that does not get affected by carbs (high or lows). I did build excess gas, but it was never uncomfortable enough to stop eating so many carbs.
The human body actually prefers utilizing fat instead carbs (glucose) as an energy source, and excess levels of certain fats actually have no known toxicity to the human body, but excess carbs do have a toxicity effect.
