Wow. Fuck the US government. It's unreal the amount of time/energymoney that they put into taking away our freedoms.

Who wants this to be passed? A few greedy entertainment industries? I would guess AT LEAST 90% of internet using Americans despise this bill. So clearly the government is not supporting Americans' desires or opinions. That's pretty messed up considered the purpose of having a government is to protect our freedoms.

Goodlatte is behind this. The same fascist bastard who was behind the UIGEA. Oh God I can only pray that Karen Kwiatkowski beats him in June.

I guess being under the Sovereign is not that bad eh Canada?

Seriously though this is a horrendous Bill and everyone in the free world is hoping this does not go through. Ni e letter from Google, AOL, Yahoo et al though. Fighting money with MOAR money.

Sadly that seems to be the only way in US politics

Maybe you could look into the "Zensursula" debate we had in Germany like 2 years ago. The government wanted to lock websites under the pretense of "child pornography". Not like go after the actual criminals, just divert the IP addresses. Oh, and the list of blocked sites wasn't publicly available, of course. The government often came out against the criticisms of that law with the statement "what? you are PRO child porn?".

Eventually freedom won, however, the protests against the ban became too large! But the danger remains, please talk to your friends and family about this. This is important, as is net neutrality. I will not stand for a "better" internet and in the meantime give up my freedom.

yeah, the "protect the children" thing is always the excuse for the fascist bastards. It's ridiculous that anyone would actually believe that the federal government is a good parent for all the children in the nation, that it's some monolithic force of good that is going to instill values and morals in the people. It's such a preposterous notion that's never worked and never will. If you want to protect the children, then parent. Period.

And I'm pretty sure that the Supreme Court ruled that it's unconstitutional to make laws prohibiting things for adults because those things would be harmful for a child, otherwise we'd all be living like children.

Unlike others in the thread, I'm quite cynical about any effort to change.

It's rigged in such a way that no amount of representative calling or protest is going to change anything. The people are too greedy, too addicted to power, too dependent on the financial non-entities that lobby them into office.

My hope lies in the possibility the entire putrid system crashes so quickly and so violently that people will actually come together and do something PHYSICAL before they get distracted by the new season of two and a half men.

A government that can declare pizza a vegetable certainly isn't looking out for the people's best interest.

Could be worse. The EU just denied water can stop dehydration due to red tape and a recent UK governemnt sponsored study said that General Practioners (i.e. doctors) should not sign people off work sick and it should be done by an independant body.

The US isn't the only country with a crackpot government it's just that our governments are just straight up useless and couldn't organize a piss-up in a brewery never mind a mass attack on freedom.

The Euro is collapsing taking the US with it, the Middle East is in the middle of what's effectively a holy war, Africa is experiencing an uprising every other week but screw that Youtube and Online Gambling are corrupting our people..THINK OF THE CHILDREN!!

Actually don't....don't think of anything....you can't. You don't know what's good for you apparently.

Throwing our hands in the air and declaring that nothing can be done is not the answer.

Absolutely but the fact of the matter is that a lot MORE will need to be done to make governments take notice. Letters etc are inconvenient for sure but they usually will simply be filed under "Bin" unless they are in vast quantities which will affect an election or through a media line which will get the story out to millions of people. (i.e. where was the outrage and call-ins and other mass media coverage of the fact that the UIGEA in the first place was a corrupt bill which was passed in a way which violated pretty much every principal the US is supposedly built on? It could very easily have been turned into an attack on freedom rather than attack on poker which is how you get people's attention)

Fortunately on the Censorship line has hit a major wall in that every major media market is covering it and the major players in the business like Google are coming out and saying "This is a terrible idea and we won't support it" and the "attack on freedom" card is being played and that's what'll hopefully cause it to be blocked.

really agree with this. the media should be making a big deal about everything that diminishes our freedom, not about whether or not a child molester who got away with it was killed by his doctor (i.e. michael jackson)

Judge Napolitano's Freedom Watch is pretty much the only show on the MSM that does this.
