Well. I think you can disagree with an opinion, or even get passionate about it. But whatever somebody says, it's their right to do so. Personally, I think the internet is going to far and I think it's good they are trying to get it more regulated.
I dont agree with taking down websites. But sometimes you have to say something drastic to get to what you really want. Like trying to sell something for 50$ and make 150$ your first offer.

These two statements are completely at odds with one another.

What about websites that are discriminating? What about sites that embrace violance? What about children picking on eachother thru sites by making sites about eachother with pictures and videos about the victim?
But is the freedom of the internet not too much free?
We don't have free speech to protect popular speech. We have it to protect unpopular, controversial speech. While I absolutely abhor racism and discriminating language and websites, it is their inalienable right to say it (see below).
If I get flamed by what I just said, isn't that the same as not being able to freely speak what somebody has to say?
Not at all. Literally, this is 0% correct. Not being allowed to say something and getting flamed for saying something that is completely wrong are two entirely different things. If someone flames you they aren't flaming your *right* to say it, they are just flaming you for having said something absurd. I don't agree with occupy wall street protestors that want socialism and I'd be happy to flame them over that, but I do support their right to protest and say what they are saying.
There are people that think the freedom of the internet has gone to far, and it shows democracy that this opinion has a mouth.
America doesn't have a democracy. We have a constitutional republic. In a democracy, the majority get whatever they want at the detriment to the minority. In a constitutional republic, the minority is protected by inalienable rights. That's the whole point of the Bill of Rights.

Surprise surprise.... the U.S. Government is going after personal freedoms and liberties??? Amazing how the government that pays the most lip service to freedom does nothing but try to take it from people.
I guess this is what happens when elections are turned into discussions on haircuts, obscure statements from 3 decades ago, who has the most money from giant backers, and who "looks Presidential".

Thanks for the info on this, I'm trying to educate myself on what's going on here.
One part that really bothers me is the way they name new bills. This is called the "Stop Online Piracy Act", so if I say I'm against it it paints me as someone who is pro-piracy.
Completely inappropriate way to stage the discussion and really clouds people's ability to even debate things in good faith when you're effectively demonizing one side and making the other side look like a saint.

For those of you not from the US, please help us get the word out - use Twitter, Facebook, or whatever means possible to help raise awareness.
Rob, what should be included in a message like this? I'd say about 99% of my friends on Facebook are Canadian, so I wouldn't be really alerting any Americans. What would you suggest?
That's some serious stuff you people to the south are dealing with. Best of luck with that. I really hope that doesn't pass. No doubt we would soon follow suit.
