1) Generally it violates the ToS of a site. Not sure what Carbon's stance on it is because it doesn't matter to me.

2) Buying HHs is a complete waste of money. You're better off investing that money into coaching or a DC subscription so you can get better at the game.

3) On a personal level, I feel that it is unethical to buy reads on players. You shouldn't be able to get 10,000 hands on someone that you've never sat a table with.

4) Over-reliance on HUDs is a problem. Buying massive amounts of HHs is only going to make you robotic and predictable. You'll get shredded by players who actually pay attention to more than their HUD.

Now, if your definition of data mining is using a piece of software like HEM to track hands that only you are an active participant in, that's a different story. Of course you can and should do that.

I wont buy hands because its a waste of money.. With spade eyes you can datamine by just open it a the table I think..

everyone and I mean everyone I know that plays poker seriously from the US is apparently moving to carbon. isnt this going to result in super reg-infested games, and guys like crackmonkey slumming to rebuild their roll? btw GJ crackmonkey - you play 5/10 and 10/20 now? Didn't I coach you when you were playing like 100nl?

So what your saying is it will be like PS and FT....

no, there were tons of American fish on Stars and FTP there arent going to find their way to Carbon very easily. they prob now believe poker is firmly illegal and inaccessible for US citizens, so i would think its mostly serious players that will get money onto Carbon. hopefully I'm wrong!

Serious player does not necessarily mean good player Smile

But yea, I would imagine the games won't be quite as good. That said, at 25 NL there are still plenty of goofs who will open jam the flop for 20x pot with top pair no kicker on a dry board.

I just tried to deposit in Carbon, my visa declined so I waited for 45 minutes in line to use the chat because I was told on this post to ask for a UseMyWallet pass. WRONG! You have to make one deposit first before they will let you use that service.

The easiest way to get going is to buy an "International Visa Gift Card" at Walgreen's. Make sure it's international and you shouldn't have any problems using it on the site. After that you will be able to use the UseMyWallet site.

I wouldn't deposit too much though as trust levels should be taken with a grain of salt at the moment. I will deposit $150 or so to see how it goes and to scratch my poker itch. Holdem Manager didn't work for me in play money games, don't know if it will work for real or if I just have to change a setting or not.

Yeah but with a full casino on the site there will be fish I would think. Stars was full of regs at 10NL. If you were lucky there were 2 fish at the table. Its not like before 2006.

Do you think that Carbon or Cake poker will see the number of players that Stars or FTP had?

Also, do you guys think which site is better for US Players? Cake or Carbon.

I would say no. Those 2 companys are the biggest and best out there.

Cake was pretty dead. I think Carbon is the best bet for now out of those two. Carbon is pretty gimmicky it seems though. All sorts of weird formats that dilute the real SNGs that I like to play. Sigh, oh well, I guess it will have to do for now.

At least their software does some pretty cool stuff that Stars and Tilt didn't do. Like when you chat, a chat bubble comes out of your avatar, or you can make a lot bigger selection of faces to express your mood. It calculates what your odds are in the hand in all in moments on the flop, turn, river, stuff like that.

Try not to worry about where the fish go, if there is a lot of talk that people are starting to play at one room then that's where they will go when they do their research.

The only time I saw it was in an all in preflop. I didn't have to turn anything on.

Go to settings at the bottom and then game. At the bottom you will see show win %'s. You can also deal it twice. I think I saw some where that you can show one card as well but i'm not sure. I don't know how that stuff works yet.

I fear that and tend to agree. Most of the fish will be the ones already there or ones that wander in from the casino or International fish. Until someone figures out a way to make it super easy to deposit, there will be a void of juicy American fish.

My hope is that the REALLY serious US players are moving to Canada, Europe, Bahamas, and the like so they can continue to play on Stars and Tilt, because I just don't think in today's environment that most players American players can continue to put food on the table at the smaller sites. Maybe that's pessismistic, but there's only so far positive thinking can take you. There's no SNE grinding on the smaller sites. There's not the same level of traffic. There's not as many fish. Everyone will have to drop their win-rate and game selection and number of tables to some degree.

However, the semi-pros like myself who play poker as a serious hobby as supplemental income will stay in the US and relocate to sites like Carbon. Yes, our win-rate will go down a lot just like 2006 all over again, BUT when the alternative is no poker, you take what you can get. My main reason for playing at this point is to simply not lose the skill of playing online poker that I've built up all these years.

Thanks for the post on carbon.

Couple questions:

Did you sign up for rakeback through a affiliate, and if so, who ?

How is the rakeback done ?

I heard you can deposit using a international visa gift card, do you know if this is true ?

Thanks in advance, if I can not get on PartyPoker from this company that offers US players a way, than carbon is my next choice. So appreciate any answers or help you may have.

Lets all stand united, until we are at the tables vs each other Smile

35% rakeback paid daily into your account.

Actually I don't know. I had 2 Visa debit cards that both were rejected ( probably by my banks ) for what that's worth.

Its been said prepaid cards will work to deposit. The reason you cant use your regular debit/credit card is because US banks wont accept online gambling transactions and some will even freeze your account for security reasons.

I use chase bank and awhile back tried to start account on bodog and had my account frozen by chase as a result. They suspected fradulent activity. So i had to call and prove my identity. Just a pain in the ass.

Im going to attempt the international prepaid visa option.

I think that because its so difficult too deposit there will definitely be less american fish. The fish you see will be from other countrys or people who are just playing poker for something to do cause they do other forms of gambling online. Only americans will be the more serious player like most of us here.

With that said tho at LOCK the ring games are definitely looser/fishier than stars. Ive compared flop percentages at 50NL on stars and LOCK and lock had much looser games on average. So the fish are still there and the games are actually decent at these sites.

Days of lots of bad americans are probably over but there will always be bad players from elsewhere.
