It was not my intention to derail the debate. I just wanted to point out that if such large a portion of the population in the US believe the bible word for word... well - then we are in a really tight spot.
So let us get this back on track. The FBI has taken poker domains. At least 1/3 of the US population is against poker. What do we do? It is a problem.
Is it possible that the best argument is: I understand and respect that you believe that the words in the bible are true. Please respect that a lot of people don't agree with you - so you have to accept that you cannot use God or the Bible as an argument unless you are defending your right to believe in them. Will that work?
Again please don't bash religion. People are allowed to believe what they what. There is no such thing as 100% certainty.
if we can convince a man of God that poker is not a bad thing - then we have a very good chance... so how do we do that?

I am a man of God and think poker is not a bad thing. So I guess we have done that

I think if you could sit one on one with anyone and show them what we do and how we study and our graphs and EV calcs we could easily prove the skill involved. The issue is trying to convince a large group of people of a seemingly broad idea

Improva I respect the heck out of but your line of thinking makes no sense. I've played in many home games where likely everyone in the game answers yes to that question. Heck I've played poker with ministers. There is a small subset of that 1/3 that believe it's the devils game but not all.
The bible says exactly zilch against gambling so there isn't any reason to exclude it from the argument.
I also agree this thread has run it's course lets get back to discussing triple range merge and other ways to improve our game.

We also need to formulate a counter argument to the "poker is a zero sum game so it doesn't benefit anyone" argument.
