No interest in travelling to U.S certainly never living there. Saying that not interested in London or my home country long term, feel about the same. Will miss the almost fair police system and law courts though.
If I can grind well enough eventually I'll be off to southeast Brazil at least for long travels. Will remember to pack savings for muggings and to bribe officials where necessary and hope for the best.

One thing about places outside the U.S. is that they often lack diversity- it gets old hanging out with the same people/cultures and eating the same food over and over.

I have quite a lot of concerns with living in the western world though - lack tradition, culture has become more shallow and the stable units of society are disintegrating (nuclear family, extended family, families unable to spend much time with kids, divorce), gender roles have broken down. Binge drinking culture is the norm here, another thing I'm not into and don't really want to bring any kids up into (not to mention it's boring). Inequality is increasing steadily in the western world and shows no sign of slowing down whereas other places actively reduce it. Still I don't think the grass would be as green as I want it to be in moving away, should I actually do it.

What countries do you determine to be the " western world" that you hold such unfavorable generalizations against?

gender roles have broken down.

??? What exactly are these gender roles, and why is their breakdown a bad thing?

my picks from places I've been to for more than a week. Ecuador (Guayaquil or Salinas)- upside- tropical, people are super super friendly, really hot chicks for one night stands or gf/wife potential, almost as modern as miami but with that something special that makes it Latin America still, cheap as hell if you do it right (the good bars and restaraunts have similar pricing to everywhere else in the world) for food, housing, transportation, cell phone and cable service etc, women and la farra, modern city with cool neighborhoods but still close to the beach. Average rent $200-$450. Downside- it is getting still considered somewhat dangerous, random kidnappings- usually short trips where they rob you or take you to bank to get money out- haven't heard of any longterm, killing type situations, can't find a job doing anything else besides teaching english unless you get lucky or come through a US company.

Now I really want to visit Costa Rica! Looks amazing!

I think this is the standard choice for Americans/Europeans that want to experience tropical latin america. Not that it is not a cool place because it is- its just very Americanized which is fine, but this fact takes away alot of the charm of living in a different culture. I have a bias towards Ecuador obviously, but hear great things about Honduras, Guatemala, Panama, and Peru where outsiders are noticed, welcomed, and accomodated for more than you would believe. But having spent about 2 months in Costa, it is still a cheap, diverse, and safe bet if moving out of the country. My two cents about the Spanish speaking world.

I'm surprised how few votes there are here for U.S. cities - San Francisco is one of my favorite cities in the world- Chicago (where I live) is definitely top 5. New Orleans???? Who wouldn't want to live there? Obviously New York isn't for everyone but its a damn cool city no matter how you slice it.

Because this is a poker forum and you can't play online poker there?

No idea what would be the best place in the world, but I'm thinking about renting an apartment in Berlin for a few months. It's a really cool dynamic city, lots of history, crazy night life and relatively cheap overall. If any of you guys happen to live in Berlin, let me know, would be cool to meet up sometime Smile

@ Berlin:
Don't go to "Spielbank (German for Casino) Berlin" at Potsdamer Platz (unless you want to play 5/10 PLO which is really crazy but really soft from what I've heard, I just didnt have the balls Smile), the rake is horrible there (players too for the most part (I was only there once but I had the most cliche businessman that you could imagine to my right), but at Alexanderplatz they are just as bad but somehow the rake is better, although they both belong to the same company)
if you're planning on playing live poker there, that is
but I heard there should be some decent homegames aswell, but most of the time those are micro-stakes like 20NL, 50NL, some 100NL, unless you want to go to the more questionable ones, but I dont really see a great reason to do so unless you want to play NL2k or higher which usually isnt offered at the casinos
