In a game where players are being beaten by programmes, how do you handle players getting help from these programmes while playing and not just afterwards as a review? Is it allowed and how common is it?

It is allowed to analyze after the decisions are made.

How to protect yourself? Backgammon is a fast and quick game. If somebody all of a sudden turns very slow AND makes the right decision. Then we got a suspicion about something is not right.

There are also robots out there that play perfect or near perfect game. They are easy to spot, as their error rates are either zero or close to zero.

It is not allowed to get help making your decisions while playing. This is regardless whether it is an other person or a program. Sometimes it can be hard to prevent though.

Excellent video. I was lost the first 15 minutes but followed the rest and now you've got me hooked. Snowie is waaaay out of my price range as a casual player, but I downloaded the GNU Backgammon and found all the features that were discussed in the vid and found the interface pretty intuitive.

If I was starting today with no bankroll, I would use gnu rather than snowie.

Why did I chose to introduce the neural networks this early? If you have been playing and losing. I want to show you a new world. So you got an idea of what you could be up against. And also showing you a power tool to help you improve your game.

around 1:30 you made a statement that Snowie is better than PT and HEM. Im pretty sure you didn't mean it the way you said it. Snowie focuses on analysing your game. And its awesome at that. But the stats section, the "account manager" sucks big time. The problem is, there is nothing better out there. HEM focuses on this part only and is light years ahead.
I agree with snowie on the 6-5. Reasoning would be, your play disconnects your army, opponent is likely to make the point anyway, opponent is inflexible and might use his bad rolls to attack, with your play you get inflexible and wish for a 5 in your next roll and the 1 is duplicated.
I have stopped playing online because of rating and the ridiculously high rake. I got an email recently from TrueMoneyGames that they got rid of the ratings and introduced a cap of 15(!)€. At other sites you might end up paying >30% rake. They punish you for rating differences with extra rake. This would be GammonEmpire and play65, basically the same company behind it. And this has been like years. They are resistant to costumer feedback and probably throw their localized promo emails in google translate. Funny and sad at the same time.
