I think this is awesome that someone can go from the lowest of the low in micros to winning 100k in only 1 year. I would be ecstatic if i could do this in 3-4 years! Do you have any advice for getting out of the micros, your BRM, taking shots etc. I started at 10NL and after being a loser for a long while joined DC and moved up to 25NL after about 20k hands. Im running at about 4BB 100 at 25NL but struggling to get in good volume.

very nice results but undoubtedly a super heater. not trying to be a dick or anything, just saying there are two sides to variance. it would be dishonest to give the impression that results like this are standard or only slightly affected by luck. yet playing well gives the best chance at going on super heaters obviously. congrats!

eta of going pro?

total hours put into poker lifetime? or how many years had you been playing pre-DC?

Sick graph dude. Many DC members should be inspired by Nan story. It definitely requires a lot of dedication, commitment and hard work to be where OP is within a year. Thanks for sharing your result and I wish you all the best for your 2nd DC anniversary ! I personally think it would be cool to involve Nan in a DC video series. Gl Smile

pkr2010: I was alwasy over rolled with more than 40BI for the next level until recently I took a shot at 10/20 with about 70k BR. As you start playing med stakes you don't only play 1 level so you don't need as a big BR to take a shot as you won't be playing only 10/20 but more like 1 tables of 10/20 and few tables of 5/10 and 3/6.

tHeBoYmUsTdIe: I played mostly on ipoker up to 200NL then spread my roll to microgaming. Now I play a bit on entraction as well. My ratio of study to play is about 1 to 2 about. Hard to say exactly but I play way more than study now and was the other way around when starting now. I did work on one concept at a time for a while then just experimented and tried to find the most +EV spot in different situations. I play mostly 6max and a bit of full ring, something like 80/20. Played HU only when I get someone to play me on a ring game table that I felt like I had an edge on. I only used HEM to find my leaks before 100NL but after that I feel like fixing stats is not the way to approach poker. My mindset was just that of a gamer trying to win in a game. I had this mentality since I first started playing chess back in elementary school. Too many eureka moments to count for example when balugawhale said in coaching kristy "Think about aggro bad players as someone with a timer over their head".

euEra: advice for taking shots at micros is just do it if you feel like you have and edge at your current level. The money is fairly insignificant if you have a job so you don't really need proper BR management as long as you don't tilt and reload every week.

worpler: I broke even and grinded rakeback for about 70k hands as you can see on my graph. Ran super bad for both my shot at 1000NL and 600NL.

nawhead: no ETA for going pro and you are right I could be on a super heater and may not achieve the same results if i started again. I have never played online poker in my life before Nov 2009 and only played home games with university friends before that.

Something that shouldn't be overlooked is how much work this guy put in. Of course some luck is involved, but this guy was clearly dedicated and put in the volume. A bunch of things lately have re-sparked my interest in putting in volume again and this is a great post. It just goes to show everyone what is possible when you combine hard work + fantastic resources.

***STUDENT FEEDBACK***

For those that want a coach that as a player is constantly evolving, patient, and just an all round top guy go no further.

First a little about myself, ive had numerous coaches (5 to be exact) and Nan, hands down is the best coach i have had. So good that i even offered to write him a reference as soon as he would decide to be a coach (inevitable cus he just seemed v.natural), which is something i havent done before.

My game is really starting to take off, he has made me think about the game a helluva lot more in depth, and ive become a lot more active on forums (2+2/private forums)due to my confidence in my ability increasing which simply reflects the good that is being done to my game.

Why has my game started to take off?

Nan, is extremely analytical, he sees your game and can take it a part and then come up with a plan to improve, whether its him explaining some theory (be it introducing completely new topics or expanding on previous knowledge)or talking about his own experiences and what has really helped him

Another thing that i look for in a coach is that they actually care. In the past ive had coaches who were just half arsed about our sessions and not really concerned with developing my game, but in it for the $$$. Nan on the other hand genuinely cares about you progressing and want's you to improve as a player and will go out of his way to offer his advice to any hand you want to throw his way or even just chat out of sessions.

What it boils down to, is Nan, takes a combination of talent, skills as a coach and his caring nature to deliver quality coaching that he is able to deliver extremely well.

To those who are concerned with his limited experiences as a coach with only a handful of players under his belt, do not be concerned at all he is the stone cold nuts.
