You mentioned whey protein but what about casein protein, can you (or someone else in this thread ie chaz/n0whereman) expand on the differences and why to take it or not?

Additionally, throughout the series you have given suggestions of what not to do before/during session, do you have any suggestions for pre-game routine?

almond butter is the nuts. lots of people think there's something in peanuts that makes peanut butter bad, but i don't know what it is offhand.

i love some almond butter and apples Smile

some say the lectins in peanuts and other legumes can be a problem and of course many peanut butter brands are loaded up with sugar/HFCS

Casein takes longer to digest and lasts longer in the body than whey protein. I'd recommend it before bed or other periods of time where you won't be eating for a few hours.

I don't think it is necessary to take both Casein and Whey, but it depends on your goals and what you're aiming for.

Is honey good?

Is artificial sweetner unheathy or preformance inhibiting?

Is it better to sleep until you wake up naturally, to limit your sleep or to keep a particular schedule?

Is food that rates high on the gi index ok to eat after you`re done playing or does it have lingering consequences?

Is it better to do a light workout before playing and to save doing a more demanding workout for after a session or is working out before playing better? If working out pre-session is better, what should you do to recuperate from your workout before you play?

This is something else that i'd be interested in. Maybe it's just me but I feel kinda "loopy" after a hard workout.

It probably affects people differently. I know I've played some of my best poker after killing myself doing an Insanity workout, and overall I feel like I'm more sharp mentally. In other people, physical exhaustion might exacerbate mental exhaustion.

Honey is actually a better option than most sweeteners.

Is artificial sweetner unheathy or preformance inhibiting?

There are a ton of these out there, so it would depend on which ones. However, based on the limited research I've seen on it, stevia is your best bet as far as artificial sweeteners gp.

Is it better to sleep until you wake up naturally, to limit your sleep or to keep a particular schedule?

This kind of depends. If you're suffering from jet lag or you've got an irregular sleep schedule, it would be wise to regulate your sleep patterns. Once you get on a regular sleep schedule, you'll find that you don't always need an alarm because your body's biological clock will wake you up naturally.

Is food that rates high on the gi index ok to eat after you`re done playing or does it have lingering consequences?

In moderation, yes. Just know that you may feel a spike and crash, and plan accordingly Smile

I wouldn't recommend working out IMMEDIATELY prior to playing, but aside from that, you're likely going to have to base this on body feel as it may differ on a case-by-case basis. To recuperate, I'd recommend getting a post-workout meal in and giving yourself a good 20 minutes prior to starting your session.

Is an energy shot like 5hour energy a good way to give yourself some extra energy while playing or could it have a negative effect?

It really depends on the particular brand. That said, while it could be detrimental to performance if taken frequently, 5 Hour Energy isn't going to have any adverse effects to the body or mind if it's only taken occasionally. The levels of caffeine are fairly low on average, and the rest of the drink is is comprised of basically concentrated B vitamins (most of which won't even be utilized by the body). Quite a few exercise scientists that I've spoken to actually believe 5 Hour Energy to be a placebo in terms of the claims they make, but it's best if you assess the effect is has on you on a case by case basis.
