this is awesome. now i can finally beat the bartender hookers in thailand.

at 3 min the computer puts a chip in the second row, why isn't his best move to place it in the third? above your chip.

if the computer doesnt place his first chip above yours, but right next to yours. where would your second chip go?

Hi Startrak,

Good question. I agree his best move is column #3 (remember, don't confuse rows with columns -- when I talk about odds and evens, I'm only concerned with the horizontal rows... the vertical columns from right to left are variables depending on who takes the offensive).

If he puts a chip in c3 (shorthand for column #3) then he gets c3r3 and neutralizes my offensive for the (odd-numbered) r3. If he did go there, I would probably go in c3r4 to make sure not to give him r4 in the center. His best move then would be to go in c1r1 which frames an even numbered win spot in c2r2. This is a play I like to make when I'm evens.

Glad you enjoyed the video. Be careful with those Thai hookers. ;

Sorry, I didn't answer this second question.

If, after I start the game in c4r1, which I always advise doing (odds is at an immediate disadvantage if he doesn't begin in this spot), the computer goes in c3r1 next to mine, then I could go in either c3r2 (topping him) or c4r2 (above myself). Either spot will help me offensively, and depending on how he reacts I would base my future plan on that action. I simply don't suggest going in another r1 spot like c5r1 or c2r1.

i had problems beating this computer.. mayby im just stupid.

Thanks for the link; that's another good site on which to play Connect 4. Unfortunately the background and graphics are a bit harsher, and the computer is fairly easy to defeat.

Here is a screenshot of my victory against the computer's hardest level, level 4: http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/6678/connect4ss.jpg

You'll see there that the way to beat him is, like I did on the video, take control of row 3, then work a diagonal to force him into defense. It doesn't show on the screenshot, but my winning chip was placed in c6r3. I had chips in c4r5 and c7r1, then put my penultimate chip in c5r4. That forced him to block me in one odd-numbered row (c2r1), leaving me free to place the winning chip in c6r3.

Nice vid.

But please try to beat the 4-connect "engine" which comes with Ubuntu.

And second, do you have an idea how the strategy changes when you where playing 5 connect, but with 2 stones for each move.

so this game is dead

bad news for checkers: that game is solved too, chess will be next in like 20 years i guess Frown.
