I was recently at a live table and the bad beat jackpot was hit....I was not involved in the hand but got a players share...
There were a lot of different opinions on the amount to tip the dealer..
I had no idea and just went along with the group....Most of the players gave her 10% which I thought was a bit much.
Is there a standard amount on tipping the dealer in this situation?

Thanks,
mahcoy

I think it's ridiculous how much people tip dealers and that's all I really have to say on the matter.

I don't really understand tipping, we dont do it much over here in my part of England.

Do you tip dealers for every pot?
Do you tip waitress' / bar tenders for every drink?

I usually tip a $1 a pot and and I feel like I'm being cheap. I tip the cocktail waitress a dollar for a drink for sure.

i like tipping, it allows me to pay for exactly the level of service i think i received. in poker i rarely tip more than $1/pot.

Steve, just out of curiosity, how much/how often do you play live? I know you've previously said that you don't play online that much anymore.

In Australia (Perth) we aren't even allowed, by the casino rules, to tip the dealers.

We are, however, permitted to go to the HR department, fill out a form, and purchase them gift cards that can only be used at the casino. Which they aren't allowed to gamble in.

Yes, I'm sure that happens often. . .

10% on a BBJ is pretty laughably huge, depending on the size of the jackpot, imo.

In a $1/2 NLHE cash game, I tip $1 for most pots (unless I just steal the blinds in which case I don't tip), and $2 if I win a really big pot.

Yeah same here. Maybe a little more if I'm feeling good. tipped about the same at 1/3 and 2/5 as well.

In Australia we have a minimum wage that is not like telling people to go fuck themselves. It's more a minimum wage that says: "this is a modern, developed country and we want the people living here to not entirely feel like some fat dickhead in a $1,500 suit in an office somewhere is the real deal and you're just his dupe."

So tipping is not really required here.

This was a 4/8 limit game and I usually just tip a $1 when I win a pot.....but the players share was a little over 1k....It was almost a 40k bad beat pot.....
I had never won this much money at once and was unsure of how to tip when winning a large amount....
I know the dealer collected close to 4k and this seemed strange to me that the dealer won more than the players share.....then again maybe I'm just a nit.....
I just thought there might be some standard tip amount in this situation.....
What about a tournament when you win a large amount?

I agree it's pretty ridiculous for the dealer to get more than the player's share not involved in the hand. I think a red chip ($5) would be a fine tip in that situation. If you won a 1K pot at a high stakes game, would you tip the dealer $100? That's just crazy.
