never thought to ask here but after this thread...
im actually really skinny
i think i weigh around 115, im about 5'11 and im 18
im definitely not eating enough, thats for sure
im trying to get into normal human being shape
can anyone recommend any supplements for every day in addition to eating, and a protein thing that i can use pre/post workout?
my workouts consist of me in my house with 15 pound weights doing flys, arm things, and forearm things
then some push ups and pull ups.
i have been steadily growing stronger, but i am gaining very little mass.
thanks!

This was my post from the other thread:

I'm 6'2" and was like 150lbs in high school. After high school I got fed up of being the skinny kid. I gained 65lbs in 3-4 months the summer after high school and peaked around 215lbs. I drank a glass of whey protein before and after workouts and a glass of miscellar casein before bed.

I'm now back down to 190lbs, trying to see how lean and how low I can get my bodyfat percent.

Drinking whey protein boosts your body's muscle protein synthesis and the miscellar casein helps slow muscle protein breakdown:

Also I order my protein from bodybuilding.com they have the cheapest prices out of anywhere IMO, and I always stick to the Optimum Nutrition brand, best tasting and highest protein content and best prices, they have been the bestseller for years for a reason.

This is the optimum whey I buy:

and the optimum casein I buy:

I also take Animal Pak vitamins:

No whey and casein are natural proteins just taken from milk. Whey is what you get when you make cheese its the layer that forms at the top, they dry it and turn it into a powder and its like 99.9% protein and they just flavor it so you can add it to water or milk or smoothie, etc...

For the vitamins the label says take 2 packs a day if you are an athlete or training, but I'm not a body builder or athlete I just take 1 pack a day and you still get 100% your daily vitamin requirements, just make sure you take them with a meal and you drink the amount of water you're supposed to drink in a day 8 glasses or whatever it is.

I started these supplements when I was your age and it didn't stunt my growth, if anything these are the nutrients you should be getting from a regular diet, but it is near impossible to eat a perfect diet IMO.

bferst,

I'd HIGHLY recommend doing starting strength or something similar. Whey and the other stuff chazbot is talking about are all plenty safe.

This +!1111. You're gana want to start some kind of structured program. I don't think arm things and forearm things with dumbbells are gunna cut it, and probably why you haven't seen any real gains, besides not upping calorie and protein intake.

Wanted to add with regards to supplements. I'm a big fan of fish oils, I usually get the pharmaceutical brands.

But nothing beats healthy eating, the worse part is people depend on supplements instead of actually using them to "supplement" their food intake.

Well this thread sold me on this I am going to give it a shot. I got the P90x package and I am just waiting on some of the equipment needed to come in.

bferst I am in a similar situation to yours as I have always been real skinny with not a lot of muscle so i'll let you know how it goes.

p90x is a really good program me and my best friend use it in the first part of summer during offseason for hockey. However, just wanted to comment on the wheight lifting. There seems to be a misunderstanding that wheight lifting will turn you into a monster (lol). Honestly in my opinion I think wheight lifting is a huge part of training. Muscle does not slow you down it will make you faster and more explosive improving everything all around. The people that you see at the gym for example that look massive and dont look like they can move are simply just training incorrectly. Flexability is key, withought it, youll still have all of that potential engery that you have gained from wheight training but the lack of flexability is like a permanent resistance on your body. This eliminates all of your explosiveness and speed.

I hope this makes sense. Its just my opinion and I think its really worth while to get educated on. I have been to many semi pro - pro training camps and am fortunate to have been trained by some very knowlagable ppl. A great book for people who would like to add the wheight training to there routines is "The Power Program" protocols for maximum strength by Dr. Micheal Colgan.

Enjoy guys

why did i have a collapsed lung? (for the second time?)

really, google it, spontaneous pnumothorax
if you get it for no reason (as in, if you dont smoke, dont deep sea dive ect.) then 99 percent of the time your tall and skinny
so yea i needa put on some weight quick, im thinking of intaking tons of food and not working out too much to put on some weight and then working on turning that into muscle
any tips?

Wow, I just googled it, sorry to hear that I didn't even know that was possible.

Yea just up your calorie intake, that's all I can tell you. Just start working out gradually and slowly and eat 6 small meals a day. Try to make your portions slightly bigger and take more food, even if you cant finish it, get used to eating more. Keep doing your pushups and pullups and situps and dips, whatever you can do. Probably stay away from pure cardio like running and biking as you want to put on mass.

If I were to start doing P90X in my second story apartment, how much is my downstairs neighbor going to hate me? I know the plyometrics is going to be bad, but is there anything else that would be a lot of stomping around?
