So basically i was listening to 2p2 podcast with Greenplastic and this question came up. If you were a beginner in todays game, what would you play?
Im quite sure he said PLO and said the value there today might be what it was in nlhe a few years ago.
What do you guys think about that? Would it be worth it to pick up a different game other than NLHE if you were a beginner and aimed to play atleast decent stakes somewhere in the future?
And also, what would you choose to pickup in this spot?

mmm, maybe PLO.
Not that I am any good at it at all, but I feel that game is probably the one that gets people thinking "I have got this game cracked" more than any other. The holdem game a few years ago was full of people who had done ok for a while then started losing, re loading, losing, re loading. This attitude to poker really is not there any more. But the "I have got this game cracked so I refuse to move down a level" does still exist and I believe that if you need a good bankroll in any game it is PLO due to increased variance.
mmm, by posting this I wonder if anyone is going to watch a few vids or/and read a book, go on to play some PLO good, think they have it cracked and blow their bankrolls. You have been warned.

OK well I might as well add something to what I already posted.
Years ago, and I mean years (for instance I stumbled on an old pacific account and noticed I put $50 in it in April 2003) people were saying...
"limit is really hard now, and I have started to look at No Limit to find the easy money", it was one of those sentences you heard a lot, just the same as you hear that todays 6max NL is harder due to legislation.
The truth though was that almost all the information out there at the time that was actually being read by someone was on "fixed limit". That is where the "thinking player" spent his time. By "thinking player" what I mean is that a large percentage of the players are actually studying the game.
Now the scene has changed, the thinking player these days seems to spend his time at NL. I think if you want to find easier money then all you have to do is wave goodbye to the thinking players and find a game that has a lot of "I play for fun" people in it. Ironically fixed limit is probably more fishy than no limit these days, because all the books and all the information people are reading it seems is on 6 max NL. Fixed Limit is probably juicier than NL these days.
Ironically, if someone was just starting out today and had never played poker I would probably say fixed limit, PLO or Stud, anything but NLHE!

In my eyes kondor101 is right.
i started 4 or 5 years ago with NL and never had a problem. 3 month ago when i signed up for DC i was starting LHE SH on .5/1 and made my way up to 2/4 kinda easy. Ofc i knew about postflop and poker a bit more than most of the other players at .5/1! But i just played nl100 and a bit of nl200 ! So i was for sure not one of the best players out there ... but FL specially SH is kinda easy to crush.
I play now SNG`s since a few days at the low levels ( less than 20$ ) to get a feel.
And have to say that most people there have no sense for postflop play and try to fold their way to the push and fold phase ! what makes it kinda easy money for me atm. But since i played less than 500SNG`s I also could have an upswing.
Once thing is for sure NLHE is maybe the hardest game to beat atm even on NL10 or NL25

Absolutely. Players are evolving. NL hold'em is tougher than ever and now omaha is on it's way. O8 seems to be the next most popular and than the stud games. Learning O8 and stud now would be my choice. There is still a lot of bad Omaha play too.
