Getting a smartphone this week, can't decide on iphone 4 or htc evo 4g.. anyone have opinions? Are iphone 4s to be had in the US? I went to two best buys and they have been sold out for weeks.

Also, is 4g vs 3g a big deal? Thanks!

comparing iphone 4 vs any of the big android phones is pretty much going to be a personal preference thing imo. i would go to the stores and try them out and find out what you like best.

i personally like android over the iphone os. i have a samsung vibrant (galaxy) and it's awesome.

regarding the 4g, it really depends on your coverage in your area.

I don't know about the new iPhone, but I have been very convinced by the Samsung Galaxy S (in the US Samsung Vibrant from T-Mobile, Captivate from AT&T and Fascinate from Verizon, Epic 4G from Sprint with full qwerty keyboard). Absolutely awesome phone. Will probably be even better after next month's software update. In Finland Samsung Galaxy S is about half the price of iPhone 4 and is in my opinion better than the previous iPhone models. As rocketragz said, probably will be a matter of opinion. Androids and iPhone seem to be very far away from rest of the smartphone competition and both will be good choices.

I loved my previous 3 iPhones and absolutely hate my new one. More dropped calls and slower data transfers hardly make up for the new bells and whistles.

Plus I completely shattered the front glass within 24 hours. (I got a manager at the Mac store to give me a new one. But now the case makes it overheat)

I was ready to go to the EVO the second S. Jobs said he would extend the return window. But my wife was hell bent on keeping the iPhone. I gave up convincing her to switch and stayed with our contract. Plus the HD video recording on the iPhone is superior.


They have just started rolling out 4G here, so coverage is key to figure out what you want. Even if you can't access any 4G, sprint still charges you for it.

Plus the EVO's screen being larger makes it great to watch DC videos on the elliptical at the gym.

The iPhone will no longer be the 'phone to have' by the end of next year.

friend of mine got the htc evo and raves about it. he used to have the iphone v2 i think

Shame the EVO is not being released in th UK - it looks awesome! I definately agree with above, both the iphone and Evo are amazing phones and you cant really go wrong either way.

HTC are announcing their latest phone, the HTC Ace (also known as the DesireHD) in mid-september, so If youve got a couple of weeks it might be a shout to wait around for that?
