$100.00 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players -

UTG: $100.00
MP: $130.10
Hero (CO): $104.68
BTN: $211.73
SB: $336.78
BB: $101.00

Pre Flop: ($1.50) Hero is CO with A Diamond Q Spade
UTG raises to $3, 1 fold, Hero raises to $10.50, 3 folds, UTG calls $7.50

Flop: ($22.50) 9 Spade 4 Heart 7 Diamond (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero bets $13.00, UTG calls $13

Turn: ($48.50) 4 Spade (2 players)
UTG checks, Hero ??

original raiser is 20/14/3.3 over 901 hands, opens 17% UTG, do we think his range consists mostly of mid pairs 88-JJ, maybe even QQ

i had a general question for other regs with hands like AK and AQ, with missed overcards. against a tight caller, what's the best way to approach this turn? do we give up on turns like this or can we 2nd barrel representing a strong overpair?

I would generally check behind on the turn.

Reasons for not barreling:
1) Villain called your 3-bet OOP. I wouldn't put as much value on his UTG open range of 17% as compared to fold to 3-bet percentage. If it's high and he still called, then that doesn't bode well.
2) Villain called your flop bet. Is villain's fold to c-bet high or low?
3) Not a very good card to barrel on the turn. It pairs the board and doesn't change anything for the villain. He still has what he has on the flop. If the turn was a King, it would be a good barrel card.

Another thing I like to look in deciding to barrel is villain's WTSD (though this takes time to converge). Sometimes opponents have low fold to c-bet and low WTSD. That usually means they give up to barrels. But for this situation of a 3-bet pot, given the 3-bet pre-flop call and c-bet call, I think the turn barrel has a low probability of working on this specific board.

Plus say you get called on the turn, what's the plan on the river? There aren't very scary cards for your opponent. The scare cards for the villain is A, K, or Q which the A or Q make your hand anyway. And even when it comes, would you bet it? If you do, would the villain would pay you off?

But I think you go back to the fact that he already called your 3-bet post flop and flop c-bet plus a brick on the turn, making this a not so ideal turn barrel, at least for me.
