Bart,
This was an outstanding podcast. Going through a session in detail would be a great format for live NL cash game discussion as well. Thanks for your insight; it's really helped my game a great deal.
GL with day 2 and beyond.
Nice show. Congratulations on surviving. I get the impression that you play much more live than online. From this experience and generally speaking, do you find yourself wondering if you should start to log more time online? I love live play but I am starting to feel that online play just has too many benefits over live - the main one being that you log more hands and learn more in a shorter period.
Hey Bart,
Nice to meet you at the 2+2 party.
This is 1 of your best podcasts ever. It was really worthwhile to hear you talk about being at such a challenging table, the emotions you experienced as a result, and how you adapted.
Might be a small peek into the future of poker that the tables where worthwhile money is up for grabs are going to get tougher and tougher.
In answer to your question about aggressive games, it's pretty rare to be in squeeze happy live games in general but I do like to min-raise w/ hands I want to play in straddled 5/10 games where the straddler always makes it 60-75 or more to go when it limps around. I'll do this out of the SB/BB as well. Usually, that small bit of aggression makes this type of player just flat unless they have a legitimate monster in this spot.
This reminds me of a question you guys glossed over in your last podcast. Someone emailed about continuing on flops where your hand rates to be best in the SB/BB (Like AQ/KQs/TT) and you raise a limped pot, get 2+ callers and don't have a favorable flop OOP. I feel like this situation comes up a lot and is worthy of more discussion.
This podcast is why Bart is my fav poker player. The lessons of humility, and adapting to specific game conditions is what makes a good player. Hearing the generalities that Bart employed when faced with a tough table, then giving detailed hands of how he implemented those thoughts was invaluable. Anyone can learn the basics. Approaching problems with a clear head from a broad perspective then acting in specific ways during the flow of a session is the one art I strive to master. Thanks Bart, by far your best podcast!
