the hand where bart folded the straight with 56 . i understand barts explanation about live player syndrome but like he said he only needs to be correct something like 1/5 times for this call to b profitable. so why is this not a snap call? i understand its a tourney and the chips have more value but still. i would love to hear other peoples thoughts on this.
I'm very excited to hear that Bart is doing a video series regarding live poker. A few weeks ago I played 2/5 live at Fallsview for the first time in a long time and the game was very very soft. I've been back about 4 times and have done very well although I am not even close to being rolled for 2/5.
Due to work, I will be moving back home to Niagara in 2 months and plan on playing live part-time. I think a complete video series by Bart about live play will be a staple in the DC library.
Some ideas of topics aside from hang replays:
*Types of players and how to play against them
*Short-stacking
*Bankroll management
*Tilt control/stop-loss
*Live ethics/tipping
I know Bart covers alot of this in his podcast, but I think these are important topics people will be able to find in one place.
On the AK hand (last hand)
Players are very unbalanced when so deep, he will only re-shove KK or AA in that spot imo. Doubt he even shoves QQ. Being so deep and IP. 4 betting pre is certainly the better play. Once we flat and villain has the initiative they can do take it down in so many instances on cbets or barrel equity turns. Post flop the hand was pretty standard. Also the river is a snap call. Calling the turn and even thinking about folding on that blank river is spew.
Good work on the podcast Bart.
For the AK hand,
Thinking you can get someone off AK with a turn raise is really optimistic. As played, calling down all 3 is good. Raising the flop isn't a bad option either because it looks so bluffy. Raise flop, check turn, tank-shove river looks really strange and might get someone to look you up with KK or QQ.
Also, 4betting AK with position is a great option here. We are likely never getting 5bet bluffed and we discourage future 3bets. By showing down AK, we are now encouraging our opponent to 3bet us more because our 4bet range is either incredibly strong, hyper polarized, or non existent.
And the bottom two pair or a set in a 3bet pot is a certainly a raise. Raising expands our range to include bluffs, A
type hands, whereas by calling a board that we wouldn't likely be floating on and then trying to put a lot of money into the pot looks a lot stronger.
