I would have heard from UTG on the flop, for suuure by the turn, if he held a pair, so I bet... called his raise... and he showed me what I put him on: AQhigh, bluffing a full. When I took a second to think, he basically had to have A-high, so checking the river lets him get off easy, imo.
Hand reading ftw.
I missed your read on UTG being a LAG but nevertheless I think this is very, very rare that this river is being bluff check raised. I can't believe you would really put him on ace high here. How many handed is this? What is his read on you you think?
Cake .50/1
Hero is on the Button w AT
UTG = LAG, not great
CO = Fish
UTG raises, CO 3-bet, Hero caps (probably bottom of my range, but these guys are hemorrhaging at this point)
Flop 9J
2
(yes, I run good on cake)
check, check, Hero bets, call, call
Turn J
check, check, Hero bets, UTG calls, Fish folds
River J
check, Hero...
I thought for a second before acting. What would you do?
lol I might be a little late - but I bet/call 100% here. If you check you miss value for Ax and lower flushes. And if his a LAG he doesn't have a PP, 9x, Jx or FLUSH here - give him the opportunity to call with AK-AQ.
BTW I think a call with AK from the villain if fine played because he still beats most of your range and you would bet 100% with KQ-KT-QT here.
Same table, Fish is in SB, Hero in BB with 8T
Fish is very straight forward, 3-balling the flop with overpair+, raising turned top pair, etc. Does not donk. Does not slowplay. Will play draws more passively.
Fish open raises in SB, Hero calls
I'm expecting this to be top 15-20% of hands. He would open-limp otherwise.
Flop 89
4
Fish bets, Hero raises, Fish calls
I would have expected a 3-ball from an overpair.
Turn Q
Fish checks, Hero...
Thoughts on the positives and negatives of a bet/check here?
Bet - no doubt. The reasons are too many to write but here are some
You read - is true - is that you got him beaten, then why don't bet. If he check-raises he got a Q if he check-calls he got AK-AJ-AT-KJ-KT, I only fear that he could pla a K9 this way ?
If you check you simply miss value he will call down with AK-AJ-AT anyway so you can decide whether to bet or check the river depending the card and on how much you think he would fold + call that you beat + call that you loose to + check-raise.
Both players sat down a hand or 2 ago.

Pre Flop: (1.4 SB) Hero is CO with JJ
UTG raises, Hero 3-bets, 2 folds, BB calls, UTG caps!, Hero calls, BB calls
...
I think folding the river is fine.
And I like the flop because people would play an AK like this and if his very aggro AT
One might say sir was a little passive with his set

Tanenbaum book has arrived! It looks fun akshullly ^.^

Well in the car from work to home I was thinking this hand over again and this LAG might not even be check raise bluffing this river but may be thinking he has the best hand. But even then, it would be very villain dependent, the read he would have on hero is important and I think when you are called or get raised you or way more in bad shape than in good.

He would have given me action with a pair. It was capped pf and he opened UTG. So, yeah, I put him on A-high. I thought for a second, v-bet, he raised, which polarized his range to a slowplay or a bluff.
I pretty sure he was just calling down, but when I paused he decide to bluff raise.
Also, this only needs to be a bluff rarely for our call to be good.

Speirs what you think of this ?

Thing is that if he had a BB he should fear the FD and bet/raise for protection/value vs Hero's range. Even with a set 9x9x vs. Hero's range I think he should - not that he would raise the flop.
I just call.
Me too.
