Hi there Platoon,

I've been talking with both our Sergent (Adam) and Platoon Member Mikaila about getting this Platoon moving, so here's my thoughts:

I believe we've all signing up in order to contribute to the community, help the Mt.Robusto project become a success and also learn something in the process.

So far, there haven't been a whole lot of disussions in the Platoon, and I feel that we've all been waiting for something to happen.... I've now realised that if something is going to happen, we're gonna make it happen ourselves.

Before the Mt.Robusto project I have signed up for numerous microstakes Skype groups and also sent PM's to fellow DC'ers that wanted to swap hands, but with no real success. The Skype GRoups often turned out to be a bunch of guys talking poker slang and complaining about being bad beaten. I'm sure that there's lots of successfull groups, but I have yet to join one. Regarding swapping hands, I have answered many forum request for such arrangements and have also put in some effort given detailed answers to the original posters hands, only to find out that the favor wasn't returned...

On the positive side, I have had a very good review of a 4 tabling video by ShadowPlat and PokerGnome (thanks, guys) and I encourage any of you to upload a video and ask for comments. I'll certainly do my best to look at it.

Regarding getting the Platoon going, I think we should have a discussion about what we would like to get out of this group and how to contribute,etc. Personally, I'd love to be able to swap hands weekly or bi-weekly, give some comments to other members video's and maybe join a sweat session sometime.

There have been some DC threads recently that looked at HEM stats, and since I just swapped PT3 for HEM, I would love to get a discussion going about pluuging leaks with HEM. How many of you are regularly looking at your stats? Do you know what your biggest leak is? How to plug it? Do you have other issues that prevents you from playing optimally? Post your history and get some comments from the Platoon.

I'm personnaly struggling with putting in enough hands, so I've just ordered a book from Amazon that deals with this;

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Procrastination-Why-You-What-About/dp/0738211702/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1278682955&sr=8-1

I have no idea if this helps, but I'm willing to give it a try...

I'm also very interested in hearing about how you guys go about improving. Do you just watch a bunch of videos and the play simultaneaously? Have you set time aside for studying while not doing anything else? How do prioritise your goals and know what to work on? Do you have a 'game plan' with long term and short term goals?

I know this is a long post, but I'd really like to get some comments.

If nothing else, could you please answer the following;

1) What stakes do you currently play?

2) Whats your Poker ambition for the remainder of the year? How will you acheive this?

3) Would you like to swap hands with other members? If so how often do you think you could be able to put in time for this? (eg. 10 hands every week?)

4) Would you like to participate in sweat session? When would be the best time for this (Please state one or two 'spots' that would suit you. E.g Sundays, 4.PM GMT, etc)

5) Would you like to join a video review list, where each member in turn uploads a video for the other members to review?

6) Do you have any other suggestions for this group? (Like how we get hoodies for all members)

Fire away!

1) What stakes do you currently play?

50NL full ring with some 6max.

2) Whats your Poker ambition for the remainder of the year? How will you acheive this?

Move up to 100NL and learn to play HU profitably, and crush there, as well as work on my 6max game.

3) Would you like to swap hands with other members? If so how often do you think you could be able to put in time for this? (eg. 10 hands every week?)

Definitely. I think it would be hugely beneficial if we got together, say 5 or 6 of us, and all bring 2 hands that we think are interesting.

4) Would you like to participate in sweat session? When would be the best time for this (Please state one or two 'spots' that would suit you. E.g Sundays, 4.PM GMT, etc)

Yes. Any day of the week except saturday is good for me (afternoon/early evening GMT)

5) Would you like to join a video review list, where each member in turn uploads a video for the other members to review?

Sure, if someone shows me how to make a video.

6) Do you have any other suggestions for this group? (Like how we get hoodies for all members)

Not yet, but we should get a Skype group going ASAP. My skype ID is andrewlynch88.

Thanks for sharing, Lynchmob. Always good to hear about other players ambitions and goals.

I'd be very interested in digussing HH's as well and if more Platoon members would like to participate then I think we could benefit.

You could post a couple of hands in this thread, if you'd like?

Regarding making a video, here's what I did:

- Download and install the freeware CamStudio (version 2.5 worked for me on Windows7 platform)
- Locate, download and install the 'x264vfw' codec. It should be listed as 'x264vfw - H.264/MPEG-4 AVC codec' in the CamStudio program when succesfully installed.
- These video settings works pretty good for me (approx 120MB for 1 hour of 4 tables):
* Quality: 100
* Key frames; 30
* Capture frames; 33ms (or 50)
* Playback; 30 frames/sec (or 20)

Also, look in the Forum, Member Video's section for more tips;
http://www.deucescracked.com/forums/22-Member-Videos

There's a couple of DC video's that address the topic of making your own video.

Cheers!

Thanks for the advice re: making videos, I'll try and get one done over the next week or so.

I'll kick off the HH discussion. This is a 50NL 6max hand that I think is really interesting. My read on the villain is that he is a LAG regular who seems very solid, not afraid to mix things up and isolate with marginal holdings (i.e. 45s, 89s, KTo). His stats were something like 55/45 over 50 hands. My table image is pretty similar - I have been loose and aggressive, and both me and villain have been fighting over the whale at the table while the others generally stay out of the way.

Here's the hand:

Full Tilt Poker $0.25/$0.50 No Limit Hold'em - 4 players - View hand 816076
The Official DeucesCracked.com Hand History Converter

BTN: $74.45
SB: $55.55
Hero (BB): $56.75
CO: $51.35

Pre Flop: ($0.75) Hero is BB with 7 Heart 7 Diamond
1 fold, BTN raises to $1.50, 1 fold, Hero calls $1

Flop: ($3.25) 3 Diamond T Spade 8 Diamond (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $2, Hero raises to $6.50, BTN calls $4.50

Turn: ($16.25) T Diamond (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN checks

River: ($16.25) 4 Spade (2 players)
Hero checks, BTN bets $11.75, Hero requests TIME to do some EV calcs

I expect the villain to have a super-wide range on the button and to be cbetting this flop a large percentage of the time, which is why I went for the check-raise. My plan was basically to turn my hand into a bluff on the flop and shut down if called. In hindshight I'm not wild about the way I played the flop as it does make things difficult if he flats, and I'm OOP and in the dark for the rest of the hand.

Regardless of how I played the flop, what do you think his flop bet/calling range is? How does that range change when he checks back the turn, and what range do you give him on the river? What is the EV of a call against that range?

i dont think you can c/rai and then not bomb the turn, you want to be able to do this with sets,draws, air etc and get value from all of them

if the villain is a good lag, he will see what your up to, c/r a pretty crappy flop for both your ranges.

I think he is betting most Tens and flushes when it comes in, 4 handed and only 50 hands i dont think stats mean much,

not sure on the EV, but i would either bomb turn or block bet river and fold to a raise

as played i call and take a note, (but im a station)

Do you not think that against a good LAG he will easily see our blocking bet for what it is and raise to get us off our hand? There's also the chance we could be value-towning ourselves against anything he's decided to check back on the turn.

Oh, and the reason I didn't bomb the turn was because I thought a lot of his flop bet/calling range contained Tx hands and flush draws which he obviously won't fold on the turn. That perception of his range changes when he checks back the turn though as I'd expect him to bet with those hands close to 100% of the time.

I agree with PokerGnome that you should bomb the turn. Especially if your'e doing this with sets, overpairs and as a semi-bluff with a flush draw. If you only bomb your monsters and check your bluffs, its very easy to pick up and exploit.
Its much better just to bet out and then decide if you get raised.
If both of you are LAGs and clearly have some meta game going, its very difficult to assess wheter hé thinks your full of it or if hes decided to trap you with a real hand.

Did you think about 3-betting preflop? 77 should be far ahead of his range and since your'e oop any leverage we can get is a bonus.

I thought about it but if he flats the 3bet pre then I'm playing in a bloated pot OOP with a marginal hand against a good player who is going to use his position against me very well. I decided to flat to keep the pot small and play postflop.

Being OOP sucks and this hand is a fine example.

What pocket pair/overcards would you 3bet shove PF?

As played, what kind of flop and turn would make you go' with the hand? One overcard flop? Monotone? Ace high flop? What if an Ace or King had turned. Would you double barrel?
